Mourinho said in the pre game interview that his players had been in the World Cup. When I thought about it initially I thought, so f***ing what so were ours, I think I get what he meant now. He means his entire squad were at the World Cup and you know what, he is right. When we started pre season we were missing Gerrard, Carra, Crouch, Alonso, Reina and little Luis. They were missing Cech, Ferreira, Gallas, Terry, Carvalho, Del Horno (now left), Essien, Lampard, Makalele, Robben, Drogba, Crespo (now left), Huth. I may have missed some I don't know.

When we started our new signings were there from day one, getting to know each other and some of the first teamers. Chelsea had Ballack and Shechenko arrive late as well.

Now normally I don't listen to his whinging but he does have a point, it's a problem of his own making mind but how the f*** do you have a pre season when you don't have any players !!!!!!

Saying that it was sweet to kick their arses and all the signs look good for us this season but I do feel that his comment is not so much excuse making as I first believed.

Nice too see Queenie replacing Huth as the centre forward against us with Terry

Being the tactical geniius that Mourinho is, if it aint broke ........

I think that's fair to say but equally we didn't start many of our World Cup players so there's a balance there somewhere...

That's the point though he didn't have many other players to play especially now he's cut his squad to 20 players.

We looked a much much better, fitter side and so I have to take his comments at face value because both Stevie and Xabi look a little off the pace when they came on and Stevie was average on Wednesday.

Having said that Woodsy his lot f***ed off to America to do marketing, we went to Switzerland to do pre-season. Whose fault is that?

And what incidentally what other questions about shirt sales, increasing market share, the real value of all that b******s does that bring up?

Doesn't wash with me: they play Premier League footy again in a week's time. Whose responsibility is it to get them fit for that?

Besides, Mourinho could have started players like Bridge - he didn't exactly have a demanding WC did he?

Even more relevant for SWP...

He could have saved Robben for the second half etc...

I'd be a bit annoyed if Rafa claimed the team where nowhere near being ready just 6 days before the league starts I have to say.

It's Maurenho's job to get them ready, so he's either not doing his job, or he's lying and using it as an excuse.

Yes they had a lot of players in the world cup, but so did other teams. That didn't stop 'em getting back to pre-season earlier than Chelsea did. Why have they only been back for a couple weeks, they can still get back earlier, doesn't mean all the squad need to be training fully. So's who's fault is it that they didn't get many pre-season games? Maybe Maurenho wanted a longer holiday, after all it's a tough life leading that bunch.

Chelsea have the biggest squad in the league, with the most depth in quality, they can cope. They also know when they buy all these expensive platers that they are internationals. So they can't get any sympathy for that.

And as we're looking at his post match comments... How many sly/bitter digs did you notice?

Calling the Shield a 'minor trophy' was a nice one on the sly side, but the best bitter one was when he stated, baldly, that Chelsea had had much more possession in the first half.

Looked happy didn't he...

I was thinking about our players World Cup involvement and it does bode well for this season.

Of those players of ours who did go to the World Cup (Kromkamp was there as well), only Gerrard and Xabi actually played significant parts.

Carra, Crouch, Kromkamp and Garcia all played but a mixture of starts, sub appearances and being left out of other games, whilst Reina played no part at all.

All things considered, for the amount of international players we have in the squad we had an amazingly low number heavily involved in many games in Germany, which means we should have the quality and the fitness to make a fast start...

Very true but the motive does not detract from the fact that they aren't at the races yet. Not saying that they shouldn't be but Mourinho is only stating the truth on this occassion.

Still an ungracious c*** in defeat though I see.

some thoughts

1. we were clearly ahead of them in match fitness terms yesterday

2. so we should be, we had our first competitive game last Wednesday there's is next Sunday

3. they have no excuses for not being ready by then, if Mourinho is still whinging about the World Cup then he can feck off

4. Lampard & Essien should have both been sent off yesterday

5. Well done to Garcia for learning his lesson from the West Ham game

6. Chelsea dont have the biggest squad in the League but that is by their own design

7. the Charity Shield is a minor trophy, we all know that.

8. Momo Sissoko is fantastic

9. the managers should always shake hands at the end, regardless.

10. nope, can only think of 9.

10. He had players in his squad who weren't at the world cup or were knocked out early who should have been at a higher level of fitness who he chose not to pick.

i guess that's why he picked the team he did then

Because he hadn't trained them properly?

or to give them game time in advance of the season to improve their fitness?

Just not good enough: six days away from the Prem and they've got most of their top players huffing and puffing. No excuses. If it were us, we'd be livid.

From where I saw the game, Ballack was blowing like the proverbial fat boy before he got his hip injury. I was actually drawing attention to it as it was ridiculously early in the game and then he pulled up... He may have felt something but to me it looked like he was after an excuse to hide. He's nowhere near fit enough to make it for the weekend.

And while we're looking at his excuses, I'd like to add that it was very pleasant indeed to see a Chelsea team have to work out how to deal with two wingers for once. They've been able to do this to everyone else for two years, together with fresh subs, now we'll find out if they can handle it the other way round.

There's no way they'll go from 50% fitness to 100% in a week. He's got the plans for pre-season wrong. Our world cup lads started training a week or 10 days before theirs knowing they'd be about 80% for the CL qualifiers and 100% for the league game.
