Surprised there's so little on this. Big club, good manager and now owned by a billionaire. Changed days ahead.

Villa are a far bigger club than Portsmouth though. Much more attractive proposition for players.

Very much so. They have a history too. I can see them challenging for europe over the next couple of seasons.

It's an if, not that big though. Unless he's from the Abramovich mould and can splash huge amounts of cash at players, maybe upto £20m then yeah fair enough but they're not even in europe at the moment and will have to make do with decent/good players until O'Neill can establish them in the uefa cup. And with Newcastle, Spurs, Blackburn and maybe Bolton around it's not going to be so easy. Portsmouth have seen how difficult it is see to attract players to the club even if you've got bags of cash.

It'll be good for the league as it'll mean one less average team but Villa won't become world beaters overnight. Unless O'Neill gets the money to spend in the next 2-3 weeks he still has an average squad to work with till January.

He's worth 1.4b, hardly an Abramovich. They might have a bit more to spend now each transfer window than they did under Ellis but it's going to take a hell of a lot of changes and years before they might be any sort of threat to us.

They'll have more to spend, but I don't think this will put them in Chelsea country.

One thing people seem to forget about Chelsea is not only do they have all that cash, they also have the lure of London.

We had a discussion on here about why clubs from the Midlands have struggled so badly in recent years, and pretty much the general conclusion was The Midlands isn't a great place to go and live. They'll still have that problem, although with more cash and a good manager I'm sure their fortunes will move in the right direction.

I can see O'Neill turning them into a top ten side which performs well in the cups, not really more than that at this stage...

One of the most financially astute people I know was always buying into Aston Villa - apparently they have a large property portfolio within the structure of the Club. Interesting to see if that influenced Lerner in any way.

It was worth it just for the headline: "Villa accept Randy advances"

Keith Harris (not that one) who brokered the deal, was on Sky saying Lerner was over here 20 years ago, and followed 3 teams, back then, who were winning trophies, and had dreams off owning one of them.

Villa was one, and the other 2 were the Mancs and Arsenal.

mmmmm, someones bulls***ting.
