Guest Makaveli Smith Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Whatever about the performace level in our last game I think it's important to talk about the new ability we now have. Rafa has mentioned in and the topic has come up every now and then for discussion however the proof of the matter did show. Liverpool now have players with pace, we have an added dimension to our play in that we can play more direct if needs be... there was one pass in particular that gerrard made that really spoke volumes for me... it was an outward through ball (if i can call it that).. before we wouldnt have had anyone who would have had the pace to make use of it but now we have bellamy... with the likes of Pennant and Gonzales there is not only pace but the ability to beat players and actually get in a good cross too! I think we are a far better side and once we settle into things I can see us doing very well indeed... however do you think we have the quality to push chelsea for the title? even if it means little, im looking forward to the community shield.
Puskas Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I think we could have an inconsistent start to the season. Even Bellamy and Pennant - who know all about the Premiership - will need time to click with their new team mates. Our other new singings will need some time to adapt. I think we're going to need to be a little patient. If we can get some consistently good results in the first ten games then I think we're in with a good chance of pushing Chelsea all the way. I think we play all three of Chelsea, Arsenal and ManU away before we play them at home, so if we're there or thereabouts come Christmas I think it could be very very close.
Earl Hafler Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 (edited) I'm very excited about the prospect of Pennant, Bellamy, Garcia, Kewell playing off Crouch and our SOON TO BE SIGNED CENTRE FORWARD The added pace and width that Bellamy and Pennant will offer will help Gerrard and Xabi reach new levels. Had we started with Crouch against Haifa we might have won more easily as it would have enabled Gerrard to arrive late into the box instead of having to make runs to provide an outlet. Exciting times. Edited August 11, 2006 by Big Stuff
Tyler Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Do you think we will see Hyypia eased out this season so that we will have a new CB pairing by Christmas? He was great last season but I keep expecting time to catch up on him one of these days?
Dalglish Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I can see us having a mediocre start to the season with lots of draws while our new players become familiar with Rafa's tactics. I can also see us being way behind the league leaders after the first month. A lot of moaning is to expected. But we will crawl up the standings quickly and eventually finish in the top 3. I'm hoping for the title, I expect a top 4-finish. Finishing outside the CL-places would be a failure.
Dominus Maximus Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I see us going for the gold. Rafa has that winning mentality. He did it with Valencia, and I don't think he is here to win silver and bronze. At times we looked like the smooth operating Valencia side. We have tricky wingers now, and we will prevail... Bellamy shouldn't play striker at home if we only go for one. But for the away games og games where we aren't controlling the game he is a nice option to have.
Coyler Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 We might be fecked if we don't gel instantly, you never know. We could be looking back at the end of the season again saying, "Jesus, we actually would have needed 8 wins out of the first 10". Anything else might cripple our challenge again. Still mad excited about the possibilities this season, though, it's going to be deadly.

The organisation, the ball winning and the fact that he misses very few headers.I'm sure he will be replaced eventually, maybe this season - but they are massive boots to fill
John am Rhein Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Pennant looked very good to me - doesn't mess around, just gets the ball into the box - and does it regularly. One minor glitch was that Bellamy didn't seem to be anticipating where Gerrard would put the ball - although that should improve the more they play together.
