Gunga Din Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 on a flight over from Ireland tonight i was talking to the guy sat next to me who was saying he was coming to the match on wednesday. we were chatting away about Football and that, and he was telling me that he comes over to about a dozen or so games a season. anyway, he then told me he was on the lookout for a Lebanon or Palestinian flag to take in on wednesday night, and asked me if i knew where he would go about getting one. now two things here. first of all, politics and football should never mix IMO, football is sport, and no matter who is blowing the f*** out one another in the world, it should stay off the football pitch. and secondly, the whole keep flags scouse issue. now obviously, flags are seen from countries where our players are from, there is always a Mali flag for example, and thats fair enough.but whoppers taking in flags to a liverpool game to make a statement about what is going on in Lebanon is a f***ing mockery. we have fans from all over the world, i'm sure we have many fans in Lebanon and Palestine, but we have always had fans in Israel too, and now it looks like a load of f***wits are gonna be turning up with flags representing one side or other in a current war. its f***ing sad and f***ing pathetic. if any f***** is sat near me with either flag, i'll shove the whole f***ing flag pole up their f***ing hole. KEEP FLAGS SCOUSE
Hassony Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I agree, football is nothing to do with politics (although a lebanes flag will do wonders to our popularity in the middle east )
Gunga Din Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 I agree, football is nothing to do with politics (although a lebanes flag will do wonders to our popularity in the middle east ) aye, but not amoung Jewisf fans either at the game or in Israel.
liverbird04 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Anti-Israel protest plan at Anfield clash with HaifaAug 5 2006 MERSEYSIDE campaigners will protest against Israeli action in the Middle East at Liverpool's clash with Maccabi Haifa at Anfield next week. A mass protest will take place outside the ground for the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday and organisers hope it will also continue inside. Placards and banners will call for peace in Lebanon while leaflets will be handed around the stadium calling for a boycott of Israeli goods. The protest was called for by Liverpool Friends of Palestine and is supported by Merseyside's Stop The War Coalition (STWC) and Trade Union Council (TUC). Mark Holt, of STWC, said: "We are hoping this event will be noticed by Israeli television, and Israelis will see there are millions of people out there who are disgusted by what is going on. http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liv...-name_page.html
Gunga Din Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 f***ing cretins. if it all kicks off outside then it'll be the club that gets in bother!! this sort of s*** has no place at football
jfogarty Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I think people are entitled to campaign for peace wherever and whenever they like but bringing in an offensive flag is just braindead. It will also give the opposition team further motivation
Euphrates Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 There was a Palestinian flag in The Piper in Clonmel. That is all.
Guest PaulMcC Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 FFS. It'll be us who gets in trouble if anything goes wrong.
Herbie von Smalls Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 i wouldn't be surprised to see a clampdown on controversial flags at the ground. i'm sure the club will also distance itself from any endorsement of the protest outside the stadium.
liverbird04 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 "A mass protest will take place outside the ground for the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday and organisers hope it will also continue inside." f*** that ..oh look they are israeli lets go and protest .
Bailo Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 It's also incredibly insensitive. No matter what you think of either sides actions, people have died in Haifa as well as Lebanon.

KEEP FLAGS SCOUSETotally with you on the secondly part and hope anyone thinking of doing such a thing sees sense however football and politics are often linked. We have this on here every three months but I've seen nothing posted by anybody yet to suggest that this isn't the case and would venture further that ynwa.tv is (to its eternal credit) a bizarre website upon which to claim that football and politics aren't linked.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 People got kicked out for having a SACK HOULLIER banner at the height of his "2nd" period ffs, they'll get kicked out for any banners like that as well.

The Michael Shields mosaic being one, the continued search for Justice being another. Yes they are football related issues but they are also political ones. Robbie wasn't wrong with the Dockers t-shirt for me either.

When I saw you'd posted herb I thought you were gonna be the first one to talk about that loon we saw buying a Pakistan flag to wind up the English at OT Thankfully the security took it off him. He must have paid all of a fiver only to walk 20 yards with it before it was taken off him
