Dule Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Arsenal are planning to hijack Lyon's bid to sign France playmaker Franck Ribery by offering Marseille £18million for his services. Marseille do not want to lose the talented midfielder, but he seems to have made his mind up that he wants to quit the club. It is widely believed Ribery wants to join Ligue 1 champions Lyon - but the Gunners are hoping to snatch him from under their noses by putting an offer on the table that Gerard Houllier's troops simply can't match. Arsene Wenger is having to freshen up his attacking options following the exits of Robert Pires and Dennis Bergkamp, and having already recruited Tomas Rosicky sees Ribery as the final piece in the jigsaw. The Gunners boss has a healthy warchest following last season's fourth-placed finish in the Premiership and run to the Champions League final. Looks like a good player from the world cup performances.
Maldini Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Don't think we were ever interested. £18m is insanity.
Hassony Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 didn't think he looked that special in the world cup tbh, not enough to warrent anything near £18m
realtarragona Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Plenty of players looked ordinary in the World Cup.
SkippyjonJones Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I though that zidane was supposed to be good. after what he did in the final I doubt he'll ever play for a club side again...
Maldini Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I thought he looked very good in the World Cup, he looked even better last season, but £18m is crazy money for someone who's only really had one good season.
Swagger Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Don't think we were ever interested. £18m is insanity. Is correct. Wenger is not one to pay silly money, so I doubt he will offer anything near 18m.
owenthomas Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 thought he looked good in the World Cup myself.. not 18m good like.. also agree that Wenger wouldn't pay that much for him..
Benitez Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 He paid £17 mill for Reyes. He agreeed a £12 mill fee for a 16 year old last season. Wenger would be more than willing to pay that sort of fee for him.

Gravy Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Where do they get £18 million from???? They've just built an expensive new stadium and have already spent 10 million on Rosicky.
Gilps Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Where do they get £18 million from???? They've just built an expensive new stadium and have already spent 10 million on Rosicky ? Just under 7 million wasn't it?
Bailo Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Where do they get £18 million from???? They've just built an expensive new stadium and have already spent 10 million on Rosicky. They haven't got Parry
galés rojo Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Where do they get £18 million from???? They've just built an expensive new stadium and have already spent 10 million on Rosicky. Selling Cole and Reyes will get them about £40 mil.
Raj Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Selling Cole and Reyes will get them about £40 mil. And they have about 3 weeks to purchase their replacements and other signings.I would be surprised if they received value for money, based on the amount of time remaining within the transfer window.

Same with Michael Carrick really, although Ribery has alot more potential and played an important role in helping France to the World Cup final, whereas Carrick just had a half decent game against Ecuador at the WC.

Bjarkinn Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 darn good point luv.. i take my last comment back!.. is benítez a girl or are you gay?
Rimbeux Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Where do they get £18 million from???? They've just built an expensive new stadium and have already spent 10 million on Rosicky. Built is the operative word, it's now an asset, a whole load of future revenue, even with what they still owe on it, the potential income will give them deep pockets
jfogarty Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 According to Tuesdays Guardian he will sign this week for £13m Oh and Reyes has been posing in the Real Madrid kit recently so I guess thats the end of him
Ostrich Man Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 is benítez a girl yep a baldy spanish one.....
