Guest roger Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Worcester friendly ends in controversy Today's final game in the series of pre-season friendlies ended in terrible controversy when the Harriers manager, Mark Yates, took his team off the St Georges Lane, Worcester, pitch towards the end of the game after an alleged incident in the dressing room between the City assistant manager Andy Morrison and the Harriers centre half Mark Creighton. The game was duly abandoned twenty minutes from time with the Harriers leading 2-0. Only one minute of the game had been played when the City striker was tackled by Creighton and received a suspected broken ankle. Although it was a strong tackle Creighton wasn't spoken to about the incident and the other City players didn't seem too bothered either. It wasn't until Creighton was subbed much later in the game following a slight injury that the game took a turn out of the ordinary. It appears that when Creighton went into the dressing room for treatment Morrison followed him and after a brief altercation punched him in the face. It must be stressed that this is just rumour and has not been confirmed yet but if it is true then Morrison should receive a strict punishment from his club. This un-savoury incident spoiled what had been up till then, apart from the injury to Webster, a decent afternoons entertainment. Ironically it was Creighton that was to open the scoring for us following a downward header and later in the second half a second goal in two games for Michael Blackwood after he was set up by Russ Penn to draw the City keeper out and send the ball past him. In between that Scott Bevan made a number of crucial saves that kept the City attack out but overall it was a balanced game that was spoilt for both sets of fans by the behind the scenes stupidity. Harriers:Bevan, Kenna, Harkness, Penn, Creighton (Whitehead), Hurren, Smikle, Reynolds, White (Sturridge), McClen, Blackwood. Harriers Online
