Nebraska Red Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 FSC losing the early saturday games is a big loss. I used to look forward to the peace and quiet at 6.45 am on a Saturday morning. Coffee, a muffin, the paper and LFC on tv. Looks like I will have to stay in bed and look for other entertainment.

americanscouser Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 this smells like a PPV scheme for FSC be interesting to see how it plays out.
PortlandRed Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I am about ready to explode over this. FSC said they were expanding their EPL coverage on FSC and then they bring in setanta and cancel the pay-per-view. Noit bad for a lot of people since setanta is 11.99 a month on directv. Pay-per-view can be $20+ per. Directv would cost me an extra 25 just to get the same channels I have now and then pay for setanta. Not to mention cancelling my digital cable and paying higher broadband costs. I blame Max Bretos. He's my scapegoat.

I'm keeping my cable tv and getting Globecast World tv - just got my dish/ waiting for install on friday. I pay $12 for Setanta only - a la carte and can cancel when the season is over. Better deal than directtv if it works out ok. Will keep you updated
Martian Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 And those of us who have Dish Network get sc***ed.

Guest lucabrasi Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Is there any way to watch Setanta on the net?

BDB Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 not yet for setanta on the net. epltalk has a podcast with shane o rourke from setanta which is good for a listen, he mentions iptv?? and the globecast setup as the 2 current alternatives. http://eplleague.blogspot.com/2006/08/excl...ntas.html#links
fabfive Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I've got Directv... The cost v cable or Dish is relative. Yes it might cost you $10-20-25 more per month depending on what you have now but you save not having to do the ppv. Last season the ppv package was $299 for the season.. Liverpool were on how many times? I think it's still an overall savings. You also get FSC Espanol for the same cost, which cable or Dish don't give you. Along with Goltv. I think it's better money spent..but I would wouldn't I...lol
americanscouser Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 supposedly all EPL teams have internet distribution rights for all their matches which negates setanta being able to play the games via their broadband option. that podcast does mention something about getting a back and "watching tv over the internet" but it sounds a bit shady to me. can't see anyone else picking up setanta before next season so its directv or bust unless this GlobeTV thing is legit.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 actually if it is on setanta I'm okay with that, but you won't have to pay for the bars, it says on setanta's webpage that they dont approve of bars charging to watch the games, of course that means nothing to most bars out there. I'd prefer if Setanta used the sky broadcast rather than the poor commentators they've been using for the friendlies.what it says on their webpage & the truth are poles apart
BDB Posted August 15, 2006 Author Posted August 15, 2006 Okay this ITVN thing is up and going. No feedback yet on it http://eplleague.blogspot.com/Has a link where you can order the equipment, and there's a 1 year contract at 14.95/month which gets you the setanta channel. Episode 20 of the EPL Talk Podcast is now available featuring an interview with the executive vice-president from ITVN. During the interview, Joseph Scotti answers all of your questions about how to get Setanta Sports via broadband, discusses how ITVN works, what the quality of the picture will be like and how you can order it before the Premiership starts. Interestingly, the ITVN executive says it was EPL Talk that convinced them to make their Setanta Sports offering available sooner than they anticipated. Meanwhile, in September, ITVN will be unveiling even more enhancements and more channel options. Plus, during the interview, Scotti hints at possible additions in the future for soccer fans. In answer to your questions, ITVN does not include the ability to support the use of digital video recording (a la Tivo). Although it can be done, ITVN does not recommend it. In the meantime, ITVN's customer service can answer your technical questions at 818-591-4186. And if you're ready to order ITVN so you can get the set top box delivered before the Premiership starts, you can call toll-free 866-988-4988 between the hours of 11am-11pm ET (the hours will be expanded beginning September 1). Or, even better, you can order it online right now from the ITVN web site at
LFC Montana Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Have you read the last bit? All you need is an internet connection, and the set top box thingy, and 14.95 / month gets you the Setanta channel, which is going to be 14.95 on directv as well. Well, I took the plunge and ordered it direct from the itvn.com site - turnaround for delivery is supposedly 2 days - so I should be up and running by Thursday night - looks like the feed is variable between 300mbs and 800mbs - and I'm on a crappy 1500mbps/128mbps ADSL connection - so I'll let those of you on the fence about it know how it works out. Roll on Saturday morning!
PortlandRed Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Let me know, I may end up having to go that way as well.

I also checkd with them about using a wireless network ? it should be fine as long as you get one of the wireless gaming devices as well for the Ethernet port. I?ll let you know.
