Guest 7777 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 It's a rare title-challenging side that doesn't have a 20-goal player The only player he's lost is Ruud van Nistelrooy Talk about contradicting himself Its a rare side that challenges for the title without a 20-goal a season player United have only lost horseface - THEIR ONLY f***ING 20 GOAL A SEASON PLAYER!!!!!!!!!! What a weapon
Herbie von Smalls Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 of course.at least he's not writing off our chances, eh?

What a weapon They don't exactly have a free scoring midfielder like Gerrard or Lampard either. Neither do Arsenal, Henry gets injured then 4th is Spurs'.
Serko Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Wayne Rooney's best return is 16 goalsAlan smith's best return is 11 goalsLouis Saha's best return is 13 in the premiership (he did get 27 for Fulham in the 1st division though)Rossi's best return is 1 goal. so their 4 main strikers have a best return of 41. Crouch best return is 12 goalsBellamy best return is 13 goalsFowler's bets return is 28 goals Now I'm not sure who to choose as the 4th striker. Pongolle who has a best of 2. Garcia who has a best return of 8, Kewell who has a best return of 14 or Gerrard who has a best return of 10? it doesn't really matter though as our 3 main strikers at the moment have a best return of 53 goals compared to man utd's 41 from their 4 strikers. This isn't taking into account that we're looking to buy another stiker. . People could argue that Fowler's best retun of 28 was 10 years ago so let's look at last saeasons stats. Our 4 main strikers(Fowler, Bellamy, Coruch, Pongolle) got 26 goals last season(not bad considering they(exlcuding Bellamyand fowler till january) had to share playing time with Cisse and Morientes) Man utd's 4 main strikers(Saha, Rooney, Smith, Rossi) got 25 goals last season (and they had to share their playing time with just one other stiker(van Nistelrooy)
Guest 7777 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 They don't exactly have a free scoring midfielder like Gerrard or Lampard either. Neither do Arsenal, Henry gets injured then 4th is Spurs'.Yeah buts lets not let facts like that get in the way of him hoovering Maureens a*** for his tea
Andy @ Allerton Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Dunno why anyone would care less what Andy Gray does or does not say. He's a poor football writer and an even worse pundit. Ignore the buffoon.
Jim D Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 His logic is ridiculous, if he thinks we'll finish 4th then fair enough but he should at least give valid and proper reasons. We finish well above Arsenal, we sign Aurelio, Paletta, Bellamy, Gonzalez and Pennant and get rid of players that dont perform, Arsenal sign Rosicky and have got rid of Pires, Campbell, Bergkamp has retired and yet they're suddenly better than us again? Hhmmmm, something not quite adding up here. Our squad is far far superior to Arsenals. Agree I feel Arsenal will have a similar season to last season. Some excellent individuals in their team and they will probably get a good record at the Emirates. But again their away form will let them down, I can see some of their players getting intimidated and bullied by the opposition. They have stilll not found a replacement for Vieria, expect a poor away record. It is between us and the Mancs to challenge Chelsea's crown.
Cobs Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 at least he's not writing off our chances, eh? or lying about how he rates United & Chelsea
Guest 7777 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Brown Andy Gray is the new Black Charlie Nicholas
Herbie von Smalls Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 or lying about how he rates United & Chelsea it must be a media conspiracy
McBain Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 He's a twunt obviously. But our forward line isn't very strong, on paper at least Goals were our big problem last season and I dont think selling Morientes and Cisse and buying Bellamy has solved that
Knoxy Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 I've no problem with pundits and the like holding the view that we're behind the mancs, Arsenal or whoever. Everyone's got a different view, and it's a tough call to make. But if you reasons for making such a claim are nonsense i.e. number of draws, not mentioning Arsenal's defensive worries, it doesn't make for a particularly credible article
Serko Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 He's a twunt obviously. But our forward line isn't very strong, on paper at least Goals were our big problem last season and I dont think selling Morientes and Cisse and buying Bellamy has solved that better service and a new striker still expected maybe. The fact that Man utd have lost van Nistlerooy, doesn't seem to commute in Grays tiny little brain cells.
Guest Scot James Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 We scored over a hundred goals last season.
CarraLegend Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 better service and a new striker still expected maybe. The fact that Man utd have lost van Nistlerooy, doesn't seem to commute in Grays tiny little brain cells. Not to mention we've got Fowler for a full season now. Injuries permitting anyway.
Knox_Harrington Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 But for me, they will struggle to get anywhere near Chelsea, because you just wonder where the goals are going to come from in that team. Peter Crouch has a lot to prove at this level, Robbie Fowler has obviously seen better days and Craig Bellamy's 13 goals in the Premiership last season was his best-ever haul. It's a rare title-challenging side that doesn't have a 20-goal player, and for Liverpool to expect Steven Gerrard to be that player is a little optimistic I think. He looked jaded this summer and I just can't see him having that sort of season again. he's clearly playing mind games cos he's scared of us......Would like to think there's the Cobsian consistancy to point out the evident why that's b******s. Are you ill?

Ok so that'll be the Chelsea side that have won the league the last 2 seasons with Lampard being top scorer with 13 and 16?!?!
Jim D Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 better service and a new striker still expected maybe. The fact that Man utd have lost van Nistlerooy, doesn't seem to commute in Grays tiny little brain cells. I don't think the lack of service was a problem. Apparently last season Liverpool created more goalscoring opportunities than any other team in the League. What let us down was our conversion ratio (one of the worst in the League), we weren't clinical enough in front of goal. Hopefully we will make a difference in this department this season. Another thing, remember the whole argument about zonal defending not working? Well Liverpool last season were the best team at defending set pieces, so lets put that to bed.
Serko Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Also Cisse and Morientes scored 14 premiership goals last season they needed 61 matches to do this (unfortunatly I can't find the exact minutes they spent on the pitch for the season) Bellamy got 13 goals in just 27 appearances.
realtarragona Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 (edited) I like Andy Gray actually and he's a good pundit but this article doesn't make much sense really. Fair enough if he thinks United are the main challengers as plenty of others will agree but the points he makes to back that up are nonsensical. They don't have a 20-goal a season striker at the moment either and drew more games than we did last season. But anyway, I'm not too worried about it, just use this and Mourinho's comments to spur the players on. Edited August 4, 2006 by realtarragona
Guest MarkN Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 I wonder if in the dark ages when the village idiot spoke, if the rest of the town committed quite so much time analysing and debating his inane ramblings?
D.Boon Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Some of you lot need to get out a bit more, maybe go for a walk or find a girlfriend. Laughable over reaction as per.

However, you are still comparing our stats with ManU's, who finished second, not first. What Gray is pointing out is that he doesn't think we have the firepower to challenge for the title, not for runners up. And he could be right.
Knoxy Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Some of you lot need to get out a bit more, maybe go for a walk or find a girlfriend. Laughable over reaction as per. You're always going to get a reaction to an article about our club, which appears to be based on daft evidence. Over reacting would be torching his house, not writing a 2 minute response on a forum. Actually, I hope someone does overeact
Phil236849 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 the thing that's annoying about andy gray's analysis, is that it is so sensationalistic, tabloidy and so shallow. once he'd got his headline material for liverpool won't be top 3, there's nothing to that piece. he could have analysed the challenges faced by arsenal, man yoo, chelsea. i think the irritating thing is most of us could do a thought-provoking, interesting column far better. put bluntly, he's a sunday sport journalist
