I thought that this may be an interesting point for a debate...

 

I have read a fair few books, some recommended on this site, about WW2 and one of the prevailing schools of thoughts amongst the Germans amongst others is that the US entered Europe purely to maintain a position of influence there and to stop communism being the dominant ideology of the continent.

 

Given the fact that they were largely the sole combatants against this ideology in the following years is this a fair motive and/or statement to make?
