That's what happens when you start paying clubs 12m for stealing their players. Other clubs smell money and do the same. I bet Leeds get a couple of million out of this and everyone is happy.

This could be great! Lets hope Bates is really bitter.

I heard that Danny Rose kid who turned them down is meant to be amazing.

why aren't we tapping him up then? C'MON PARRY SHOW SOME AMBITION

His nickname must be 'Broadway'?

They'll end up paying Leeds about a billion pounds just to avoid getting slapped on the wrists by the FA, just like when they tapped up Arnesen (sp)

Didn't Chelsea get warned about this last season?

Could we see a points deduction (if they actually did it of course ;) )?

Like Obi Mikel, they'll just pay a lot of hush money to Leeds. Sick of clubs bottling it when the $$££roubles are flashed.

Or a possible ban on transfers?

Can anyone explain what they've done wrong? I didn't think youth players were under the same contract as adults, so other clubs are able to approach them?

Judging from

Executive officer Shaun Harvey said: "They've been released and are on trial at Chelsea. If they do sign for another club, we are entitled to compensation."

and now

Bates added: "We want to be compensated for the work we put in with these players and the loss of opportunity."

It seems Leeds just want the compensation that was owed to them a year ago. Although why has it taken so long to happen and so long for Leeds to kick up a fuss?

wonder if smurf will have the guts to follow through where the wancs, the a*** and the spurs were too scared to.

saying that though, the FA and UEFA and FIFA won't do anything anyway. a 250 fine from the fa, reduced to 2.99 and a packet of crisps, and please don't do this again from UEFA and a 2euro fine, and fifa sending a thank you note to abramovich for services to the game.

Given Leeds' financial situation i think they're aiming to get as much cash out of this as they can. Chelsea being deducted points (if it came to that) won't help them. They'll settle.

Bates made a good point today about football academies. They've become worthless, despite spending so much money and energy into these acadamies the brightest of the crop will always be poached by bigger/other clubs for a minimal fee. The clubs develop these acadmies so that they can produce future players for their squad, not so the players they've developed can get poached before even kicking a ball in the first team of their original club.

The whole academy set-up is a joke in the first place, the FA go on about having the players' best interests in mind, but surely it hurts the game not to have the best young players getting the best coaching.

The Dutch and Spanish have it right, their academies are like boarding schools, the kids attend from the age of 13 and get a proper education and more extensive training. They're also allowed to recruit players from all over their respective countries.

The limitations in England on who clubs can recruit are heavily biased in favour of certain regions.

It doesn't help that the rules around signing players is at best, a grey area.

Look at arsenal and Man u. Pique, Lupoli, Rossi, cesc and merida all poached for nothing from europe.

What motivation is there for barcelona to coach players if clubs go and do that?

rules such all players signed under the age of 17 have a bunch of proviso's built in, based on first team appearances, international appearances and future transfer as well as a first option clause when crossing borders. That will reward everyone involved.

we've only just started doing this, but we are in this too. How much did we buy Barragan, roque and antwi for?

the problem is, that those in control of the game don't care and those in charge of the club are only interested in themselves.
