Tax and National Insurance..

i'm hoping osmeone can help here.. my missus is driving me mad talking about work so this should help her make her mind up..

 

Basically, she was going to go back to work (after maternity) for 3 days a week (22 hours or something).

 

She has a few friends who've gone back part time and she's now been told by one of them that the amount she gets for 2 days (16 hours) works out virtually the same as what another friend gets for doing 3 days (22 hours) because of paying less (or no?) tax / national insurance.. is this correct??

 

i'm not sure on what amount of hours or what you can earn before tax etc is applied.. any help would be great..
