David Hodgson Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 He's clearly signing for Chelsea. Why would they have sold Duff otherwise ?
Keita Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 not surprised he is 26 btw ta, Penannt or Simao if we had a choice?
Ombudsam Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 He never plays very well whenever I see him. I am allowed to say that right?
Guest Sabre Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 No. I've seen him play dozens of times. He was poor at Barca and whenever i've seen him play for Benfica and Portugal he generally disappoints. He's certainly not worth the figures talked about even though he scores the occasional long range effort He must be rubbish and terribly inconsistent to be their captain
Guz Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I don't think he's a flashy player but solid and works his b******s off. Havent seen him THAT often mind you but I was dead happy when he was on the plane last August ready to come here.
anny road Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 He never plays very well whenever I see him. I am allowed to say that right? give it a rest will yer I suppose you didnt watch him at Anfield or OT then?
Guz Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I didn't think he was that great against us apart from the goal which was pretty stunning but I can still see myself shouting at Sami and Traore to close him down...
anny road Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I didn't think he was that great against us apart from the goal which was pretty stunning but I can still see myself shouting at Sami and Traore to close him down... his movement and work rate against us at Anfield was fantastic.....##i watched that game the other day funnily enough, and he was all over the place
madaboutlfc Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 better than pennant but not good enough for me.. Paul Anderson will do a better job.. rotate him with Hammill and our right side will be sorted for 15 years
Guz Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Fair enough. If i remember correctly he was good against the mancs. He seems to be a solid footballer, lots of work ethic, is versatile enough to play on either wing and is comfortable on both feet. Did he actually sign a new contract last year? Because if he did and we are going to spend ~£10m on a wide man I'd imagine that man to be Alves, but if Simao only has a year left on his contract..
Ombudsam Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 give it a rest will yer I suppose you didnt watch him at Anfield or OT then? I watched him in both games and he scored two great goals without doing overly much aside. Against the mancs he didn't skin that 18year old Bardsley once. He didn't do that much versus barca or with barca and he's not that hot for portugal whenever i see him/them. If Benitez wants him then I'm sure he's good as he wouldn't want to just spend for the sake of it. I just haven't seen him play well so I can't really form the opinion he's a good player the way I can with a Kaka or a deco
Guest Sabre Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 better than pennant but not good enough for me.. Paul Anderson will do a better job.. rotate him with Hammill and our right side will be sorted for 15 years You're mental. How the hell can you say that Anderson and Hammill would be alright?!

Ombudsam Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 You're mental. How the hell can you say that Anderson and Hammill would be alright?! Paul Anderson set up 2 goals against Burnley under 18s. Can Simao claim to have ever done that?
Barnesy_10 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Paul Anderson set up 2 goals against Burnley under 18s. Can Simao claim to have ever done that? the man's got a point
madaboutlfc Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 You're mental. How the hell can you say that Anderson and Hammill would be alright?!ive seen simao and anderson.. Id rather take a punt at an 18 year old kid whose already won silverware with Liverpool
anny road Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 ive seen simao and anderson.. Id rather take a punt at an 18 year old kid whose already won silverware with Liverpool so have I and you are mental
Guest Sabre Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 ive seen simao and anderson.. Id rather take a punt at an 18 year old kid whose already won silverware with Liverpool Feck me, why not just play the whole youth cup winning team? You nutcase.
liverbird04 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I thought benfica were not prepared to sell Simao for anything less than 20 million euros ,I know valencia are throwing in a player as well but the price is coming down for sure.
Sion Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 If we buy Simao with enough money to have bought Alves with, but we didn't because of stubborness I won't be happy.
Benzo-13 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 We'll buy Alves.. I'd rather Simao to Pennant though.
madaboutlfc Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Feck me, why not just play the whole youth cup winning team? You nutcase.well if we were in the mid season under houllier losing to charlton at home.. that would have been a viable option..
RedNik Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 With Garcia, Kewell, Gerrard and even Pongolle as options, and good options at that, for right mid, we CERTAINLY do not need to buy 2 for that position. I've never understood why so many people want us to go for both alves and pennant, especially considering how good finnan has been in the last 2 seasons. 1 right side player, given our need to strengthen an expensive position (striker) and our financial situation, and our present options .. will more than suffice.
David Hodgson Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 give it a rest will yer I suppose you didnt watch him at Anfield or OT then? Simao terrified the life out of me at Anfield. He was fantastic in that first half hour (well before the goal). I remember feeling a real ache of regret that he wasn't on our side that night. All this is immaterial mind, as surely Chelsea, now needing a winger, will go for him.
