Same reason they call their American football, Basketball and Hockey leagues the NFL, NBA and the NHL I guess....

This guy is a fantastic sports journalist, the stuff he writes on US sport is great. The stuff he writes on the NBA is miles ahead of anything written by any journalist on football.

 

Given that I have been regularly reading his column for a year now, I was looking forward to this articles, which he has been building up for a while. Given he has no knowledge of the game, I thought it was a good attempt.
