Gilps Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Whinging sod Anelka reveals Portsmouth offer Fenerbahce striker Nicolas Anelka claims Portsmouth have made an £8.2m bid to bring him to Fratton Park. He also revealed Blackburn and Bolton are also interested but said: "Portsmouth are the only club to have made an offer for me. "Fenerbahce would like to keep me but they understand that I want to rejoin a major European league. "In Portsmouth I talked with manager Harry Redknapp, who knows me well," the ex-Arsenal and Liverpool striker added. "My ambition would be to join a club that regularly plays in the Champions League, but I cannot force them to recruit me. "If I had to join a club like Portsmouth, I would go there with the aim of giving my best. This is the same for Bolton or Blackburn, whose managers have also contacted me. "I hope things will be sorted within 10 days, as myself and Fenerbahce need to know as soon as possible." Anelka, who has also played for Real Madrid, Paris St Germain and Manchester City, hit out at former Anfield boss Gerard Houllier for wrecking his career by refusing to sign him on a permanent deal. He said: "When he told me at the last minute that he had no intention of keeping me, he put me in a difficult situation because I had not negotiated anything with other teams. "And I ended up joining a club (Manchester City) against my will. "Gerard Houllier is responsible for what happened to me. If he had not snubbed me at Liverpool I would not have had to play with minor clubs for the past four years which I had never imagined joining. "I would not be where I am right now, that is to say waiting to be signed by a great English club." Anelka has acquired a reputation for being difficult, and also claimed: "I was told that people from Manchester City were saying bad things about me to other clubs who are interested in me. "The clubs should instead ask the players I played with and they would see. "It's incredible because I have never had any problems when playing in England except when I asked to leave Arsenal in 1999. "If great clubs don't sign me it's never because of the way I play. It's very frustrating, especially because I know I could do as well, if not better, than their strikers."
Bigal Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 after them comments, city will welcome him back to the premiership with open arms
jimmylibel Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Lesson 1 in how to endear yourself to the Fenerbahce faithful - Don't say the following: If he had not snubbed me at Liverpool I would not have had to play with minor clubs for the past four years which I had never imagined joining.
smithdown Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 "Gerard Houllier is responsible for what happened to me. If he had not snubbed me at Liverpool I would not have had to play with minor clubs for the past four years which I had never imagined joining." Too funny.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I'm sort of glad Houllier never signed Duff/Anelka because he may still be in charge.
smithdown Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Woah! Wait there! 8,200,000 pound bid? For Anelka? When the FA are investigating transfer bungs? Is Harry Redknapp totally feckin bonkers???
Guest Anders Honoré Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 pomey are loaded now. They can afford it.
Gilps Posted July 19, 2006 Author Posted July 19, 2006 pomey are loaded now. They can afford it. None of which stops Redknapp being bonkers. Or (more to the point) as bent as a nine bob note, the fat crook.
CarraLegend Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Pompey seem to have been after about 50 expensive players, unsurprisingly though they keep getting told to do one.
smithdown Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 pomey are loaded now. They can afford it. Sure the chariman can afford it but he must be crackers if he thinks that Mad Harry is getting him value for his money. Its Balaban-esque that kind of offer.
RedHarvest Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 "The clubs should instead ask the players I played with and they would see." Like Robbie Fowler
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 and some people wish we'd kept him that 8.2 should be 2.8 & even then, I'd be amazed. Does he believe his own hype? He's not even that good
floyd Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 (edited) Redknapp and McKay dealings. mmmmm let me think what goes on in their "meetings" Edited July 19, 2006 by floyd
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Whatever that means, to you too.you ARE having a laugh? Class is something that no-one's ever associated with Anelka
Benitez Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Anelka is dead right - Houllier did mess up his career. He signed Anelka as a stop-gap until the end of the season, but there was supposed to be a long-term contract waiting for him if he did the business while he was at Liverpool. Anelka behaved impeccably and played very well for us. My opinion is that Houllier never intended to offer Anelka a contract, and was expecting him to commit some misdemeanour which would give him the excuse to p*ss him off. As it was, Anelka did nothing to give Houllier any excuse, so he p*ssed him off anyway. Anelka is a class player. It was a big mistake to get rid of him. nicely done, almost believed you for a second there!
Guest Cameron Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I'd rather we had kept Anelka than sign Diouf.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 hardly putting your neck on the block there now, are you?
Guest Cameron Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Well Anelka's been made out to be a disaster signing when he was anything but. Diouf on the other hand, the guy we signed to replace him, WAS a complete disaster.Anelka did well while he was here and for the first and only time in his career, seemed happy and content. You can tell how upset he was to leave, he';s always having a pop at Ged for ending his Liverpool dream.Had he stayed I think he would have been a success.
anny road Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 amuses me no end whan peopl talk about Anelka and LIverpool His goal record wasnt great, his form was patchy and sure he did behave but he wanted a contract.....he was hated at City...and they were glad to see the back of him, this is a player who was scoring 1 in 2 for them......hated in the dressing room, despised..... MadridPSGLiverpoolCity all glad to get rid a coincidence no

What would your reaction be?- 'In Rafa we trust', 'Rafa knows more than me', 'I used to think he was a c***,like Bellamy, but maybe now he's matured'
Guest Joppo Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 A bad reputation. As does Bellamy. No? But I am as you probably are willing to give him a chance. As everyone deserves. So what would have been wrong with giving Anelka one? Sorry but I do not pretend to have inside info but from the trouble Diouf gave with hindsight to me Anelka may have been the better option.

I would have no choice But when you know 1st hand what his team mates think of him, and what he got upto then it does cloud your judgement Edited July 19, 2006 by anny road
