They are refinancing expensive hedge fund debt with bank debt. Hedge fund interest is not paid in cash but rolled up into the debt figure repayable, however the roll up is accounted for as interest in their report and accounts.

i.e. in effect they have had an interest payment holiday which they will now back pay on refinancing. Their interst bill will fall to more reasonable levels with bank debt, however of course the absolute amount of debt required to repay the hedge fund debt is greater due to the rolled up interest.

All in all, a totally expected outcome, and also a good thing for Manchester United. Gutted they managed to refinance it to be honest. That hedge fund debt would have screwed them over if they couldnt.

Can't believe they're paying more than 10% interest on the loan, with interst rates as low as they are at the moment.

read somewhere that their gate receipts will average £3m per match following their expansion so effectively their PL gate money will only go to service interest on their loan.

Feck me, they must have some serious irons in other fires to pay their wage bill and other direct costs let alone have the transfer budget that the tabs make out.

I don't give a stuff about the money but if Man U can only beat the Kaiser Chiefs 1-0 then they need an overhaul on the pitch... they are only a 5 piece for f**ks sake!

Yeah, that's £1.5m-£2m more than we make each game, which just goes to show the importance of our new stadium financially.
