Serko Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Does anyone else think 15 goals is a low target to set considering he got 17 goals in an injury hit season for blackburn last year. Could it be that Benitez is expecting to rotate him quiet heavily this season? If so I would definelty expect another striker to arrive.
Gunga Din Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 the big thing about all Rafa's teams is that the goals never come from the one source, but are always spread around the team. iF bellamy gets 15, Crouch say another 12, Fowler 12, Gerrard 10, Garcia 10, Alonos 5, Gonzalez 5, etc we will be all right. wanting one player to score 30 odd goals a season means if anything happens to him, the goals will dry up, but if our 4 strikers get 50 between them, our midfield gets say 25-30, and are defence gets a few we will be fine
Ronnie Whelan Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I love Fowlers quote from the offal: Fowler set up Bellamy's goal in the comfortable 2-0 win and said afterwards: "I thought Craig was a good player at Newcastle. Now he has come to a massive club and only time will tell how he does. But from first impressions he is a very, very good player in training and he scored a very, very good goal here." The Geordies wouldnt be to happy about that, arent they among the European elite?
Gunga Din Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I love Fowlers quote from the offal:The Geordies wouldnt be to happy about that, arent they among the European elite? yes, Newcastle United are one of the biggest clubs in err... Newcastle
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 this time last year it was 'Carra & benitex 6 goals target' Sell Carra; sack Rafa
Serko Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 carra's was optimistic, Bellamy's seems pessimistic.
abc Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I love Fowlers quote from the offal:The Geordies wouldnt be to happy about that, arent they among the European elite? Nah, they can't be unhappy. They're still the big club they are. It's just that we're just massive.
Guz Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 If Bellamy gets 15 in the league it would be a good return. Hopefully get a few more goals from Gerrard too this season in the league.
Cunny Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 15 in the Prem and another half dozen in cups will do nicely
anny road Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 (edited) i think you will find that was a minimum return Edited July 17, 2006 by anny road
Earl Hafler Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Bellamy is about a 1 in 3 man in the league so i'd be very happy with 15 goals. 25-1 for top Premiership goalscorer.

I'm sure rafa would prefer to talk targets to the player alone, the press just get a soundbite that suits.
R A Softlad Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Only a d****ead of a manager would claim his striker should score 20 goals or more... oh hang on.
Guest fowlergod09 Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 (edited) I think 15 league goals will be a good return for our second /third choice striker. If robbie can get 20 and robocrouch gets 15 that will be a good return from our frontline. i still believe that rafa has a frontline striker lined up to play with robbie as our first choice strikeforce. I know people will think i am off my head but i think rafa is trying to sign luiz renaldo from real madrid. Now that is a mouth watering prospect. Edited July 18, 2006 by fowlergod09
Boca Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Only a d****ead of a manager would claim his striker should score 20 goals or more... oh hang on. Love the bit where he says "you have to be a special player to wear the number nine at Goodison." Yeah, like Drunken was a special player ?
Alonso Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 On the point of Bellamy; How many appearances did he make last season for Blackburn? I thought it was about 32 but a mate reckons it was only 17. Spike Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I agree with Wayne's point. Bellamy will bring more to the team than goals so we shouldn't hang him on it - he's fast, direct yet purposeful and with our well fecking speedy attacking midfield play I anticipate a similar total return for our strikers and midfielders in total.
Cooldude Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 If Bellamy gets his 15 and Robbie and Crouch get around 20 between them (That's not even counting a new striker we're gonna sign), we'd get around 40 goals at least from our strikers, which is very good. Couple with our inevitable 12 goal season from Garcia and 12-15 from Gerrard, and probably squeeze another 10 goals outta the other players, you'd get a good enough amount of goals Beauty of Rafa's teams are that they have never relied on any one player to get the goals, which is why his teams have never had super-prolific strikers
smokescreen Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 If Bellamy gets his 15 and Robbie and Crouch get around 20 between them (That's not even counting a new striker we're gonna sign), we'd get around 40 goals 15 + 20 = 40+... Morning
