The players I don't want them to get are: Mascherana, De Rossi, Gattuso and Diarra. I'd be reasonably satisfied if they get Carrick or Vieira

That's how i see it as well.

Vieira had an excellent world cup, he'd do wonders for MaNUre. Hope he goes somewhere else. Wouldn't mind him at Liverpool either.

Personally I think Carrick would do a good job for United as well. They need a ball player, someone who will just sit there for them and spread the passes about to the wings and for Rooney and A.N Other to get onto, and Carrick will do just that. I imagine the time he's spent learning off Edgar Davids won't have done him much harm.

Vieira, also a target for Roma and Internazionale, revealed in his autobiography last yearthat he would contemplate joining United, despite his numerous run-ins during matches against the club, notably with Van Nistelrooy. 'When you are a player, you always look at the best,' he said. ' and that Manchester United team was the best in the country.'

I get the feeling that in his autobiography he was referrring to a united team from way back and certainly not the one that only has the carling cup to it's name since his book was written.

That's why he says 'was the best'... ;)

He's a decent player, but a level behind what they need tbh, they need the level of Alonso and Pirlo

They got 81 points last year with John O Shea and Darren f***ing Fletcher. Even Salif Diao would improve them which is why someone like Carrick would be an excellent signing for the mancs despite the price.

And we won the EC with Baros up front and Traore left back, doesn't mean they'll get away with it again

I'll not be sweating if they get Carrick, because he's not going to make a huge difference to them, next to Giggs, who did that job last season.

Carrick is hardly as bad as the two they had playing there last year. Didn't they even have to resort to playing Giggs there on some occasions? Their first team would unbelievably good if they had Xabi or Stevie in midfield but that doesn't mean they need a star of that quality (which aren't exactly in abundance..) in there considering how well they did (relatively speaking) without a decent midfield last year.

If they get Carrick and Vieira, I would be worried. they have a decent group around them. we can take the piss all we like, but they have got a chance too.

I would expect them to be in Europe into the new year though, so will be interesting how their squad copes.

Carrick is a good player, but the jury is still out on whether he is a great one. I don't think he is yet.

By the way, I like your signature growler.

Vieira is still a decent player but there are better players about then him, as mentioned above.

United are obviously going to strengthen the midfield come what may and of all the players mentioned I'd be least worried by Carrick and Vieira.

Not a cat-in-hells chance of this IMO.

Fergiscum hates him with a passion.

I was talking to a united fan at work and when they mention 16 million for carrick he reckons for that price they should test west hams resolve and bid for reo-coker. I would hate it if they got him.

With the return of OGS,Scholes and Heinz manU will be alot stronger this season. I think they could seriously give Chelsea a run for their money. Just hoping we replace the big players who have left.

No he doesn't. Is on record as having tried to sign him on a number of occasions.

What from arsenal?

He doesn't exactly fit into his idea of slowly building a new young side does he.

Does Van der Saar then?

He has expressed an interest in getting Vieira on a number of occasions while he was an Arsenal player. Everytime Vieira encouraged the bid and then decided to stay at Arsenal.

Do you not remember the Vieira quote from the time he almost went to Real. Some of the Italian sides were being linked and he said something along the lines of "I won't go to Italy, if I leave it will either be for Spain or the North West of England".
