'Juve Relegated To Serie B'

According to reports emerging from Italy, Juventus have been relegated to Serie B with a 15-points deduction for their part in the match-fixing scandal. Lazio & Fiorentina will also be demoted, while AC Milan will stay in Serie A but thrown out of the Champs League

This has been reported on Football 365. They are saying that these are unconfirmed reports.

Surely they should have a points deduction?

If their punihmet s effectively a points deduction in relation to the season just gone, they could be said not to have finished in the top four. So the European 'punishment' is simply a consequence of the domestic one.

UEFA should be looking to add it's own punishments (bans etc.) to all teams involved. If it had the ballacks, obviously.

I'm in Verona at the moment. I've just got a colleague to translate the headlines from Gazetto Dello Sport. The official announcement will be made at 7pm Italian time today. It is expected that Juve, Lazio and Fiorentina will be relegated to serie b. Lazio and Fiorentina will get a points deduction of 6-7 points, this will be less severe than Juve's points deduction. Milan will remain in serie a (my colleague smells a deal has been done by Berlusconi....) but will not participate in the CL.

Are they awarding any retrospective titles to Inter?

They should get last years. Not sure whether the earlier title will still be stripped from Juve.

Posted

assuming Juventus, Lazio and fiorentina get relegated who joins the serie A? is it the teams that would have been relegated from serie A or will they promote some teams from serie b?

Due to the nature of the charge against Juve specifically and the arcane rules of the Italian FA, the first beneficiaries will be Bologna, as explained below.

"The case against Juventus is different from that against the others. The prosecutor has specifically asked for the club to be excluded from the championship. That means that under a complex system devised by the Italian Federation, the country's most successful club would be replaced by Bologna.

That decision is based on the club's long- and short-term performance and average attendance over many years. If the other three are also demoted, the three teams who were relegated last season - Messina, Lecce and Treviso - would be reinstated to Serie A."

source, which also fairly neatly explains what will happen with the European places

If their doing things retrospectively, they should strip Inter of their 1965 semi final win against us, after they bribed the ref, we go and play the final against Benfica, we win (don’t think Eusebio has got it anymore), and then no more Mancs going on about 1968.

Just goes to show how corrupt it’s always been, bribing and taking illegal substances, and always will be. You can’t change the habit of a lifetime.
