Ratters Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I was watching a documentary the other day is it me or does he love himself ??? I thought he was a good player but never that great as some would have you believe.
Murphman Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 He was indeed brilliant, whether he was better than Zidane? Nope.
berdoing Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Great player, but a complete and utter loon whom some insiders are praying does not become FIFA president because apparently he wants the following: to ban tackling to ban most physical contact to punish bigger clubs for being big by paying money to the smaller clubs scrap the champions league slash most national leagues cut european world cup places
Hassony Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 do you love zidane so much because of his origin? have you seen platini play in his prime?
Guest 70400 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Tough call. They played in different eras and Zidane won a WC more than Platini... The Germans f***ed Michel twice.
Figaro Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Platini is one of the biggest c nuts of all time. Has continuously lied about Heysel stating that he did not know people had died. He was told before the game started and it was confirmed yet still he was in favour of playing the match and disgustingly celebrated the goal.
Koogan Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Platini was truly a great player and I can't remember him being a c*** on the field of play. Better than Zidane in my opinion.
John am Rhein Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I'm not sure Platini was better than Zidane. There's not much to choose between them, IMO. But you used to get exaggeration like 'Platini is better than Maradona' which you don't hear now because it's so self-evidently ridiculous. At the time I'd have said Platini was the 2nd best European player ever after Cruyff. Now I think Zidane may have equalled him, although maybe not surpassed him. If Platini had really done himself justice in the World Cup - apparently he wasn't fully fit in all 3 of the tournaments he played - it might have been different. It was really only European Championship 1994 where Platini reached the heights he was capable of. His achievements in club football are pretty good, but not unarguably better than a few others: Zidane, Gullit, Van Basten, etc.

Figaro Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Anyone who tries to get a team mate dropped from a World Cup just because he shagged the missus has to be a real c nut
magneto Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Platini was on the voting panel that voted against us entering the Champions League last season.
John am Rhein Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 never knew that. remember him celebrating the goal, albeit vaguely. That was f*cking surreal.
shaq Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 do you love zidane so much because of his origin? have you seen platini play in his prime? madaboutlfc is French Algerian?!? I thought he was Pakistani?
madaboutlfc Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 do you love zidane so much because of his origin? have you seen platini play in his prime?what has origin got to do with why i like him as a player.. the guy is a legend of the game and a great person.. so no

He was told before the game started and it was confirmed yet still he was in favour of playing the match and disgustingly celebrated the goal.He may well be one of the biggest of all time and celebrating the goal may add to the charge sheet, but would Liverpool players be exempt from the accusation of lying about knowing that people had died before the game?
madaboutlfc Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 His achievements in club football are pretty good, but not unarguably better than a few others: Zidane, Gullit, Van Basten, etc.his achievement in club football dont rival that of the others mentioned.. he won the European Cup from a penalty that never was.. had it not been for heysel he would have not won that..

He was told before the game started and it was confirmed yet still he was in favour of playing the match and disgustingly celebrated the goal.Agree with all of that, and yes - he does love himself in an almost mentally deranged way. Fantastic player...better than Zidane? At their peak - no. Zidane had just a bit more of everything than Platini who fell short in a couple of departments - he couldn't really head a ball, couldn't tackle and to the best of my knowledge has never laid one on an ex-blue. The more I think about it seriously, the more Zidane at his peak shades it.
John am Rhein Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 he couldn't really head a ball ahem! his achievement in club football dont rival that of the others mentioned.. he won the European Cup from a penalty that never was.. had it not been for heysel he would have not won that.. Probably right. I was thinking of Italian Serie A, above all. Platini certainly dominated that for a while, but no more so than the others.
fyds Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ahem!Probably right. I was thinking of Italian Serie A, above all. Platini certainly dominated that for a while, but no more so than the others. You think Platini was a good header of the ball? Fair enough....must admit I don't though! Been thinking about it, and Platini was more of a Baggio than a Zidane, perhaps ay best a few degrees better than Baggio at his best. Also, one of his great and more or less equally skilled adversaries during Platini's early days has been all but forgotten by the following generation - Gunter Netzer of Borrussia Moenchengladbach, Real Madrid and Hamburg. What a player he was - then there was Zico of course...
Hassony Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 He certainly was during the 1984 european championshipthat was a fluke
fyds Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 that was a fluke No - he used Craig Johnston as a stand in. He certainly was during the 1984 european championshipAye, but even Henry has scored the odd one with his head!
fyds Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Yes, they were quality, and I'm not denying he was either - but he didn't get many with his head as a general rule. Not the tallest of players admittedly. Still a bellend though.
