Fault diagnosis with Wireless-G Notebook Adapter

Either Wireless-G Notebook Adapter, which previously has worked fine is now fecked (but the power/green and link/red lights are illuminating on insertion) or the slot in my laptop is buggered...

 

..anyone know how to do any diagnostic checks which aren't going round to a mate's with a wireless card and doing trial and error cos not got opportunity for a few days and really want to get this fixed.. lappy in for repair of buy a new Adapter
