Montse Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Liverpool boss fires Chelsea broadside 13:13 July, 13, 2006 Rafael Benitez has claimed that Roman Abramovich's money makes things too easy for the Premiership champions Ahead of next month's Charity Shield fixture between the two teams, the Anfield boss said: "With Abramovich, they can do what they want, and they don't need to work all summer like some people. "They just draw up a list of the best players, decide they will have him and him, then go on holiday for a month. "I managed to get away to Crete for one week, and I had a mobile phone pressed to my ear all the time. I sometimes think it would be nice to have a month off, but there's not much chance. "Maybe it is easier for someone else, but it is worth all the hard work when you are able to make signings like Aurelio and Paletta without using all your budget." Liverpool face a less hectic pre-season this year after entering last season's Champions League at the first qualifying stage. "It's much better for us this time," Benitez told the Echo. "We can prepare for the whole season now. Pre-season is really important and in England it is maybe more important when you play a lot of games throughout the season, often twice a week." And so my friends it all starts Anyone get the impression we have a manager itching to get on with the season?
Benitez Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Of course you've got to love him, you're Montse! lol!
Guest Jodus Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 He is right, and he said it without sounding TOO bitter about it. People will remember these comments if we are even keeping pace, they we are doing so without the ever-open chequebook...
Leo No.8 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 If he bought me a watch every year I'd bloody love him too... Montse, Montse show us yer watches, Monste show us yer watches!
koppper Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Liverpool boss fires Chelsea broadside 13:13 July, 13, 2006 And so my friends it all starts When you click on the link, the "Liverpool Breaking News" at the bottom says "1st £100 million player signs 4 LFC?! Liverpool land best in the world?!" Oh yeah - calls cost £1/min - could have something to do with it.
JonShar Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Anyone else notice that when he talks about Chelsea he hardly EVER mentions Mourinho? It's always about Abramovich, or their great, expensive players - quietly takes JM out of the "reason for their success" conversation. I love it!
liverbird04 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Yeah ,remember him saying the special one of chelsea was abramovich. sod the world cup ,time for more rafa and mourinho spats.
JohnnyH Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I suppose it's funny to see him have a go, but I personally prefer it when we don't comment on other teams. When Ferguson comes out with such a comment I always think it lacks a little class. I have accused Mourinho of been a voyeur in the past over his comments, so I would be a hypocrite if I applauded Rafas comments. Still made me smile though, but I bet fans of other teams just think Benitez is obsessed with Chelsea. Having said the above, someone did point out that all football fans are hypocrites and I agree with that and I am laughing at Rafas comments to be fair. I would imagine that Mourinho will use this in his pre-match wibble ahead of playing us.
Benitez Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 the thing with Rafa is - he only ever bites back. He'll wait and wait and wait, till he's finally sure that someone is treating his team with a lack of respect and disdain, as Maurenho does, and then he strikes, and does a far better job of it (mostly), as he's far more subtle. It's great, cos its more entertaining than when it comes from someone who you expect it from week in week out so that it becomes tedious. It'd be dull as anything without the little spats in this league, cos apart from 3 or 4 teams, the football is pretty s****!
Cooldude Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 The difference with Fergie's comments and Rafa's comments is that you can tell one comes from a drunken senile old twit having a whinge (And throw in the odd f word in there for special effects) and the other comes from an educated, intelligent person using subtle and witty measures to bring his point across.

I'm 100% with Rafa on these comments, but it would be embarrassing if we got into a situation like the one between fergie and wenger. I would prefer him to just say nothing and make a statement by BEATING THEM! to the title. And I really think we can give them a proper race for it this year.

Leo No.8 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Basically he's just telling the truth, he has to spend the summer chasing transfer deals whilst Mourinho says who he wants and goes on holiday. I suppose you could look at it as a dig; alternatively you could just say maybe Rafa would like to have a longer holiday!

TBH I missed those kind of comments and I was waiting for that since Mourinho had a dig at Crouch during the world cup. Bring on the new season...
