Stevie H Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 gazza was a semi-final. and i reckon referees definitely behave a bit more leniently in cup finals.
Des Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 gazza was a semi-final. Nah, that was in the final. He wasn't carded though, just carried off.
Cobs Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 gazza was a semi-final. what semi final? Not '91 where he scored that belting free kick and he only got a yellow in the final

Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 wasnt an arsenal player sent off a fewyears ago in the cup finaloh aye. 2 in 125 Cup Finals (incl replays too I think)
Guest Kev Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Referees are a lot more lenient in Cup games, especially Carling Cup games. I don't know why, but they are.
kop205 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 It is only in recent years that red cards have proliferated though really, isn't? Up until, say, the mid to late 80s you had to do something pretty f***ing bad to get sent off, whether it was a final or not. Now people get sent off for much less. I suspect that in years to come, there will be more and more red cards in finals.
