The name flair players largely didn't perform/change the nature of games, Zidane (except the latter stages), Henry, Totti, Ronaldinho, Lampard (!!), C Ronaldo, and so on. Yep, I know someone will now give me an example...(other than Argentina)

The winners, and third place teams - who I thought played the match of the tournament in the semi - were all solid, versatile pros. They played as a team, worked hard for themselves and eachother but generally didn't rely on flashes of individual brilliance to get them where they got. France did in the latter stages although Zidane's influence wained and France were pretty pedestrian without him pulling the strings/influencing

Teamwork was the big winner in this world cup. Discuss...

Despite the hype - two players that have received a lot of media attention - Placcy Ronaldo and Rooney - did f*** all this world cup and didn't contribute anything but fancy dan moves and things for the cameras.

Their teams would have been better off with a team player that actually contributed to the cause.

He danced around a bit but his actual contribution, not unlike it is for ManUtd was largely ignorable.

I honestly don't understand how Ronaldo was even in line for the Young Player of the Tournament prize. He did f*** all during the tournament, at his best he was average, and he was rarely at his best. Lots of tricks, lots of flicks, sod all end result.

don;t forget to mention Gerrard... he was aweful... not totally his fault mind .. England were largely rubbish and there is one man to blame when a team full of good players consistently under performs or fails to at all.
