Bet Materazzi is f*cking made up...

He should be. He's f***ing s**** compared to Nesta.

Accident waiting to happen for Italy.

(Although, he'll probably score the winner now)

Apart from that crazy tackle against the US,I don't think Materazzi has done much wrong. To be honest I think he's been excellent and deserves his place in the side.

Do you mean instead of Nesta? Or, instead of any other alternative available on Sunday?

Obviously Nesta is the better player, but that's no criticism of Materazzi, not many central defenders are better than Nesta. I think it would be a tad harsh on Materazzi to drop him for the final,as was great against Germany.

Fair enough. He worries me everytime I see him play. Either a mistake or a reckless tackle away from placing his team in trouble. Have seen him do it on many occasions for Inter, less so for Italy, but still....

If Nesta was fit, he would be a straight into the team. As he isn't, Italy have no significant option apart from Matterazi. As I said, he'll probably be Man of the Match and score the winner now.

Materazzi is a mad f*****, but he's been absolute quality in this WC. Difficult to imagine him being an ex-Toffee...

I guess this still applies

Think they've got every chance of doing so. As well as France have played, in the last two they've not created much from open play and needed a free kick and penalty to win the games. Although of course with Materazzi in the side, there's always the chance of them getting a similar chance.

f***ing hell, your scary.

Indeed. I'll be looking out for Gilps' posts from this day onwards.

How about sparing a thought for Paolo Maldini.

One of the best players in Italy's history, they must have won the World Cup in 82 just before he came through, then just as he finishes they win it again and his replacement scores the winning penalty!

Didn't make his international debut until '88. Still, with appearances in three World Cups and three European Championships (including a final in each) he was unlucky not to have won something at International level.

Still, Italy's most capped player, appearance record for Milan, 6 Serie A titles and 4 Europen Cupsdoesn't represent too bad a career.
