ManxRed Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 It'll probably come down to who can do the best impression of a Building Society Manager doing a cameo role as a celebrity footballer signing a cringe-inducing jingle for mortgages. Captaincy? Sorry, new players only.
John am Rhein Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Captaincy? Sorry, new players only. It's going to be Walcott! They want a first-time buyer!
Benitez Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Offal states its case I hope it's TErry and not SteG. Just that the whole circus that goes with it, will get so tedious!
John am Rhein Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Umbro vote for Terry - I have that from head office: The only English "Umbro" players are Michael Owen, John Terry and David James. So it's a kinda no-brainer. Until Deco changes nationality again...
Runehammer Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 (edited) i don't want gerrard to be england captain. terry's welcome to it. Likewise, Stevie doesn't need all the baggage that comes with it and I think it would have a negative impact on him. Edited July 4, 2006 by Runehammer
Gravy Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Likewise, Stevie doesn't need all the baggage that comes with it and I think it would have a negative impact on him. Yeah, coz Gerrard would just hate to be England Captain. I for one would love it to be Gerrard.
Coyler Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 It will be Terry. Neville is too old for starters. Gerrard's insistence all tournament of (correctly) pointing out England were playing poorly when the rest of the squad were saying all was well will count against him. The England captain must be unctroversial and stay on message. He clawed it back a bit then with his defence of Rooney, though.
Gilps Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 He clawed it back a bit then with his defence of Rooney, though. True. He didn't quite go so far as proposed assitant manager Alan "Not A Gayer" Shearer in suggesting how much physical retribution young Wayne should dish out to theat greasy Portuguese cheat though, did he?
Des Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 He didn't quite go so far as proposed assitant manager Alan "Not A Gayer" Shearer in suggesting how much physical retribution young Wayne should dish out to theat greasy Portuguese cheat though, did he? Hasn't what Big Gay Al said been taken slightly out of context? Apparently he said, in a jokey manner, that Rooney probably would "stick one on" Ronaldo in training, not that he should do. I don't think Shearer would let the mask slip so easily, or at least so blatantly.
RP Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yeah, coz Gerrard would just hate to be England Captain. I for one would love it to be Gerrard. So you keep saying. No relevance to the question asked though.

Stevie H Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I don't think Shearer would let the mask slip so easily, or at least so blatantly. what, alan 'did you call wor pint a puff?' shearer? 'e divvn't be 'avin nee truck with bufties leek.
Gravy Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 So you keep saying. No relevance to the question asked though. Didn't know I'd said it before. Oh, and I was just replying to a post. that's what the reply button's for isn't it?
RP Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I thought the question was who will be the next England captain, not who Gravy thinks might really like to do it. I stand corrected.
Gravy Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I thought the question was who will be the next England captain, not who Gravy thinks might really like to do it. I stand corrected. Like I said, I was replying to someone else's post. Consider yourself corrected then.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I thought the question was who will be the next England captain, not who Gravy thinks might really like to do it. I stand corrected. It has about as much relevance as 'Likewise, Stevie doesn't need all the baggage that comes with it and I think it would have a negative impact on him' then. The last time Stevie was handed a captaincy, he upped his game considerably. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same happening for England.
Gilps Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 The last time Stevie was handed a captaincy, he upped his game considerably. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same happening for England. The team he upped hs game for gave him the licence to play. Something England remain unlikely to do, armband or not. Of course MacClaren may believe that Gerrard should be allowed to run amok for England, but it would rather beg the questiona as to why he's not mentioned the idea to Eriksson at any point over the last few years.
Suth Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Hope he doesnt get it and anyway England dont deserve him. they play him out of position to accommodate the over-rated lampard and as a result are not strong as they should be. f'ck em.
