He's gone from our only hope to our only dope.

The press virtually put Rooney on the plane in my view. There was no way he should have gone, infact I posted that he wasn't going after a mate's mate told him.

Well now three weeks later the press are crucifying the very same player they said that we couldn't win the World Cup without.

Now I hate Rooney, hate him with a passion. But if he is to achieve the status that his talent can take him, he needs to curb his temper. His fuse is very short and can be wound up like the old clockwork toy. He maybe the best striker England has, but his temperament will always be under question and in the big games, the really big games he'll let England down.

Beckham did it in 1998 by getting sent off, he did it again in 2002 by s***ting out of the tackle, and now Rooney. The common demoninator ?????? Manchester United.

The press should turn their attention towards (a) placcy for his part in getting a club colleague sent off (b) idiotic ref who sent Rooney off for a flimsy push © Portugal's disgraceful tactics throughout the entire tournament. They're a blight on the world cup and seeing them as semi finalists darkens the sport we love, (d) the utterly useless c*** that was in charge of the England team.

But the press will probably blame Rooney.

I know what you're saying and in a way I agree, but the main reason we are out is Sven Goran Eriksson. His team, his tactics and in five games we have struggled.

no. exactly what did placcy do? he got (lightly) pushed. did he fall on his erse a la simeone? did he make a song & dance to the ref? no. one person to blame; the bellend that is rooney for doing that right under the ref's nose. yes, the ref (probably) overreacted but i see placcy as wholly innocent in all of this.

Funny how the same player who's unfairly built up as "The key to solve all of England's problems and win the World Cup" will now be the one who's gonna get this s*** stain put on him for his entire career now

Rooney deserved the sending off for his moronic behaviour but he wouldn't deserve the b******ing he's gonna get now, he shouldn't have been at Germany in the first place and should've never been stupid enough to be labeled by the dumb tabloid as the messiah to all things England, because he ain't

Having someone with such a short fuse running around as lone striker was always likely to lead to this. Everyone who has seen him play when things aren't going his way knows that. Add to that his lack of match fitness and the selection of 4-5-1 seems perverse.

Still, if it means the s*n are on his back instead of up hi a*se then I won't lose any sleep over it. How much did he take off them for his exclusive interview again?

I don't blame Rooney, Infact I feel sorry for him more then anything.

Their were 3 moments during that incident when he had the ball were a free kick should of been given in his favor.

Ronaldo was a slimy little s*** bag, running from god knows were to show it, Rooney was disgusted as a club team mate and pushed him, very very lightly IMO.

The ref seen it and sent him off, the stamp itself was silly but it Im sure it wasn't what he was sent off for.

Even so I still feel sorry for him

But Sven should of brought Defoe or another striker, if you are taking 2 Unfit strikers, another one who hasn't even played in the Prem and another who everyone hates?

He needed another striker

You feel sorry for an inbred Manc c***?!

If Rooney wasn't a footballer - he'd be a pub fighter and part-time petty criminal.

Exactly. I couldn't feel sorry for that w***** if I was paid £ms fake it. Everton? Man Utd? all he has to do now is slap my sister and he drops below Jack the Ripper in my view of man.

I feel sorry for him for that reason ;)

FWIW I thought Crouchy did a fantastic job when he came on, he was far more effective as a lone striker than Rooney was - but ho hum its all over now.

As usual blind prejudice and ignorance are allowed to colour people's judgement. Just admit it, Rooney is a wonderfully gifted player whose talent, alongside that of Steven Gerrard's, that mental Swede has managed to squander.

I feel really sorry for the lad this morning, all the squad will be devastated, but Rooney more than most. He's very young and very impetuous. He has a childish love of football that unlike most of our other talent, successive trainers havent been able or tried to coach out of him. You dont get the same approach from Brazilians, over coaching and reliance on tactics/formations are neutralizing this game to a point where players like Rooney are exceptions

Brilliant lad, inspriational to those who play with him, but needs to grow up and be a bit more wise to those who are going to try to get him sent off

As for that git of a manager, 24m of sterile, unimaginative over cautious fear ridden tactics. I hope this crucifies his career because he deserves nothing more

As usual blind prejudice and ignorance are allowed to colour people's judgement. Just admit it, Rooney was totally totally overrated in this world cup - failed to score a goal or impact a game in any meaningful way (Did he manage a goal in even qualifying?!) has he managed an assist.

Apart from moaning, stomping on peoples nuts and showing that he's basically a thug - what has he done?

Nowt.

That's what.

As someone said - Crouch when he came on (Even though we were down to 10 men) looked more like a footballer than Rooney has throughout the tournement.

Not sure why so many are buying into this media hype for a Manc knob anyway.

Christ, anyone else you want to blame to deflect it from the team?

Blatantly obvious that you know absolutely nothing about football if you really believe that tripe youve just posted

Rooney lost his temper and paid the price that I'm not arguing with, but quite frankly to suggest his talent is all hype is incredulous

I dont mind a constructive critique of players but mind numbing generalisations of that order are an embarrassment

Yeah. Never been to a game of football in my life, me.

If you've read other posts on this particular pub-brawler - then you'd know I acknowledge that the potential exists for him - but he needs to improve a whole lot.

I've got mates that are season ticket holders at Old Trafford - and they will be the first to tell you he is overrated.

He's at the stage where if the team is playing and passing and moving well - he'll lift his game and will astonish you with skill and goals. But he's also at the stage where individually he can't quite lift the whole team in the way that some players can - that might well come in time - and probably will - but he's not there yet.

Mind you - what do they know they only watch him week in, week out.

And the other fact of the matter is that he was unfit - playing him in the role he was at was plain stupid - not his fault I know - but from that position he did very, very little.

Maybe if he'd been fully fit AND at the top of his game then he could have changed it - but he wasn't fit and he wasn't at the top of his game.

If you don't believe that - then I fail to see how you think you know anything about football yourself.

Posted

Oh. And before you go on even further - I've probably seen Rooney play more than you ever have. My girlfriend has a ST at Goodison and I go down there sometimes to watch the game and have a pint with the Everton lads afterwards.

At Everton he DID carry the team. He DID do amazing stuff - but his role at Old Trafford and England haven't let him shine in the same way as he did then.

Ah sling it splint. Loads of us have been saying he's been over-rated and over-hyped since miles off. You and a bunch of others have been shouting the dds about how great he already is and now you've had it shoved down yout throats. Why not just accept England are a second tier team, Rooney is all hype and no trousers until he grows up and give the rest of us a break with your opinion masquerading as some kind of 'generally accepted opinion'.
