Guest Jack Bauer Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 http://forum.liverpoolway.co.uk/showthread.php?t=34336 Ajax full back Hatem Trabelsi is currently on Merseyside discussing a possible Bosman transfer to the reds. The Tunisia defender flew in to Liverpool airport from Holland today after Rafa Benitez finally appeared to have accepted defeat in his attempt to sign Sevilla's Daniel Alves. The reds were hoping to bring in Alves to play predominantly on the right of midfield, as well as providing cover for the right back spot. However, Sevilla have steadfastly refused to budge on their £12m asking price, which was out of Liverpool's price range, and Benitez has now set his sights on a cut price double swoop for Trabelsi and Jermaine Pennant to give him more options on the right flank. The rest of the transfer kitty will be used to try and prise Dirk Kuyt away from Feyenoord. Dutch full back Jan Kromkamp is expected to return to Holland, with Ajax his most likely destination as the Amsterdam club look to replace Trabelsi. There is also the possibility that Benitez may try to use Kromkamp as part of a package to tempt Feyenoord into selling Kuyt. Kromkamp's signing was only ever seen by Benitez as a shrewd piece of business, as not only did he manage to offload Josemi as part of the deal, he knew he could raise £2-3m by selling the Dutchman back to his homeland this summer.
tomski Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 http://forum.liverpoolway.co.uk/showthread.php?t=34336 good. that's trablesi, pennant and kuyt for the price of alves. Bargain.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Bare in mind that Sevilla could drop the price now. Think it's either Alves or Pennant + Trabelsi.
anfield Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Feyenoord sold Kalou, they wont just let Kuyt go. Of course it helps that he had a crappy world cup so his price wont be inflated
DJM Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I'm happy with that. Pennant is proven in the Premiership and is low risk not only from that point of view but also from the cost point ofview. Christ, with him and Bellamy we'll be a nsty outfit
Guest Cardie Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 (edited) We're about two years too late with Trabelsi. As a back up on a free it's fair enough I suppose, no real compensation for losing out on Alves though. Edited June 30, 2006 by Cardie
Guest Sabre Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Trabelsi, Pennant and a striker and we are looking strong.
Guest Paddy Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I suppose, no real compensation for losing out on Alves though. Alves is still an unknown quantity and could quite easily turn out to be an expensive flop.
DonRafa Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I'm happy with that. Pennant is proven in the Premiership and is low risk not only from that point of view but also from the cost point ofview. Christ, with him and Bellamy we'll be a nsty outfit Why is Pennant nasty? I don't recall reading about any complaints from Brum. It appears he did vey well there on the whole
Keita Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Why are we getting excited about a bunch of average players signing for us, are we Manchester City now or something
Guest Jack Bauer Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 sign big namez from the world cupz like dioufz and diaoz. Trabelsi maybe getting on, but he is a quality attacking right back, Bellamy is proven class and Pennant has been quality when he has got a game.
RP Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Why are we getting excited about a bunch of average players signing for us, are we Manchester City now or something Can't argue with logic like that.
Rushian Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 It's frustrating that we seem unable to secure our number one target yet again and again seem to have to make do with the buy one get one free signings. Seems to have done Barca no harm in the last two seasons when desperately trying to balance their budget. Quality Bosman transfers can add loads to a well trained team.
fyds Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Gary MacMarkus BabbelBoudewijn ZendenFabio Aurelio We've not done too badly out of the freebies either.
Clay Davis Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 i've always thought Ricky the Hitman Hatem Trabelsi is a good player, but theres concerns over his knees i think i've read recently? YES its in the other thread on him, but i'm taking that with a pinch of fun
fyds Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 i've always thought Ricky the Hitman Hatem Trabelsi is a good player, but theres concerns over his knees i think i've read recently?Yep - seems to have had a couple of ops on them in recent years.
aka Dus Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 And a good trainer with a big budget will also tend to beat a good trainer with a small budget. Grand. But then you are into the same debate about what 'big' really is. Personally I think one title while staying within your means is worth two while spending the riches of Croesus. And before you say it, perhaps there is space to increase what our 'means' are, but right now that's all as maybe.
Guest Paddy Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Momo isn't a defensive midfielder though is he? He's a seeker. He's a seeking defensive midfielder.
Mikey Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I'm happy with Pennant instead of Alves, he's a bloody good player proven in the PL and better than anyone else at the club, other than Stevie, in his position. I think he will more than just do a job for us, look how Lennon has pregressed at a better club! 2 years ago Trabelsi(sp?) was rated one of the best RB's in the world and looked nailed on for the a***, dunno what happened there but if we get him for nothing and low wages then in effect we have swapped josemi for him and got £3M for nothing when we sell Kromkamp. don't want Kuyt though, would prefer another couple of quid and get Bent.
Nerik Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Pity to miss out on Alves as he seemed to be well rated by Rafa. If Trabelsi's knee is that bad I am sure it will be diagnosed in the medical. 4 gambles by Rafa in Aurelio, Trabelsi, Bellamy and Pennant. However for a total transfer kitty of less than 10m it makes sense. Remember we spent 10m on da Serial Killer...........
Stevie H Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 bellamy, paletta, gonzalez, pennant, trabelsi and kuyt would be a fantastic summer's work. can't see how anyone could have a problem with pennant as a player, he's proven premiership quality who under a better coach is only going to improve. he looked top quality under steve bruce's coaching ffs.
Guest Sabre Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Yup, agree with you Stevie. I saw him for the one time in the flesh when we whooped Brum 7 nil in the cup. He was the only player out there who could compete with us - shame he was playing next to players like Dunn!
