Just found that my grandfather is listed on there

Now, given that his claim to fame is really very minor, I was very surprised. How do people / topics get added? Is there some sort of editorial control over listings ( not just the content but the addition of a listing?).

Puzzled by who might have added it too.

Wikipedia used to be a massive free-for-all in terms of who was allowed to post what, but in the light of recent relevations that US politicians were having their own profiles edited to reflect on themselves favourably as well as growing criticism of the quality of some of the content, they've reconsidered this. They have since started revoking and restricting editorial access to certain listings and topics.

It's alright if you're after some basic knowledge on a topic - there are som excellent listings as well as a lot of complete garbage. Nicholas Carr called it "an incoherent hodge-podge of dubious factoids that adds up to something far less than the sum of its parts" and in my opinion was mostly right in saying so.
