madaboutlfc Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 for around 16-17m... Ive seen Carrick a few times and hes no where as good as Xabi and doubt he ever will be.. what a bargain Xabi really has been
Stevie H Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 if spurs get zokora + £10m for carrick, that's great business.
Guest Scot Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Carrick will improve the mancs, price doesn't matter. So much for the Glazers nor permitting purchasing. That myth has been nailed early. I said at the time that I saw no reason to see Glazer as a negative for the mancs.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 remember - 8m to everyone else = 17m to the mancs & 25m to Chelsea

Guest Scot Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 They won't be in the short term, it depends how long they stick around though, the incremental rise in debt repayments will necessitate major changes to the running of the club. Why will there necessarily be a rise in debt repayments? Anyway perhaps this is a better capital structure for the club, for all I know. The Glazers want to make money, which they cannot do unless Man U makes money. The fear of fans was that the new owners would chase money at the cost of success on the field by not investing in players. No sign of that so far.
Case Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Is Carrick better than Fletcher, Richardson, O'Shea, Miller, Giggs, Jar Jar or Smith in Central mid? Yes, certainly he is. But, with him in the team, could they be overrun by quality pressing teams playing a high tempo game? Yes, they can. He is an improvement on what they have, but at £16m (if that's what it'll be), I'm not exactly frightened. Giggs will start to decline, Scholes already has. Ronaldo could be off (I hope not, but still...), Richardson et al... Well, yeah..... exactly. They need to look at rebuilding MOST of their midfield, not just central mid. And I don't think they can do it in one summer.
chrisbonnie Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 am the only one that doesnt see anything remotely special witht his lad? Hansen said he gave "a midfielding masterclass" against Ecuador, yet i didnt see him in the bloody game, let them waste their money on inflated premiership priced mediocrity, doesnt worry me one bit im sure if you ask any manure fan, they`ll say the same

In fact Hargreaves is better than Carrick.
Gomez Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 On the back of the London Standard (saw it on SSN) that they've now offered £20m
CarraLegend Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 On the back of the London Standard (saw it on SSN) that they've now offered £20m f***ing hell, that'd be criminal.
Stevie H Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 On the back of the London Standard (saw it on SSN) that they've now offered £20mlol! well, if they can afford it good luck to them. i'm quite happy them getting carrick because he doesn't seem to have the usual narky attitude or arrogance of a manc signing. he's certainly not going to be a keane who takes games by the scruff of the neck. they should have gone in for zokora.
The Hitman Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 he's certainly not going to be a keane who takes games by the scruff of the neck. That's exactly it,he's not,and nor will he ever be.I think he's about on a par with Redknapp back when he was good and fit.An elegant passer of the ball, but one who needs support from an energetic player. He doesn't sieze the initiative, which is what they need.Good player-yesWhat they need-no

Dan Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Just goes to show how inflated the market is when you want to buy an English player. The Alonso comparison is a good one as both of their careers were at a similar stage when getting their big moves. Alonso played a bit part role in Euro 2004 as has Carrick in this WC - both impressing when given the chance. Both were influential in getting their respective teams into Europe, both around the same age.......except Carrick costs twice as much for half the talent!
Guest Red Mist Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 He's better than Fletcher and O'Shea...that's all he's got going for him though.
