MarkD Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Chelsea. Don't know the price but just come back from lunch with some people who are both matchday sponsors and box holders at Chelsea. Say terms were agreed last weekend and will be announced upon Italy's exit.

Carlos is apparently on his way after the World Cup, now Cannavaro, Ballack, Shevchenko, seems to be going against everything they've done to win the titles so far. Seems like Abramovich is desperate for the CL.
Leo No.8 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Signing the best players in the World and hoping they'll all play well together doesn't always work. Chelsea are becoming the Galacticarnoz...
Stevie H Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 another signing for the champions league. anyone would think they know the result of the serie a corruption trial already. . .
Knox_Harrington Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 another signing for the champions league. anyone would think they know the result of the serie a corruption trial already. . .To be honest if that's going the way it looks to be going it's in Juve's interest to agree a deal where possible now with Chelsea rather than a f*** off firesale.

Leo makes a good point too.. a very good point.. let's hope it transpires that way too..

LOL - "I'll take Del Piero if you throw in that old Thuram with it, what do you say?"

Question marks over Gallas and Carvalho remaining at Chelsea next season. I'd much rather they had Cannavaro than either of those tbh.
Gilps Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 oh totally. just curious as to who else they might expect decent money for. buffon, zlatan, zambrotta maybe. Emerson and Vieira will still attract decent fees, if not exactly fortunes.
Stevie H Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Emerson and Vieira will still attract decent fees, if not exactly fortunes. i don't see what the big deal is with emerson. he's a poor man's george boateng.
Montse Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 This is getting mad, in the funny sort of way. There is no way Jose is going to keep all the highly paid bench warmers and 1st team happy. It makes you wonder who is pulling the strings now. This desparation to win the CL is going to be the downfall of this team....sob!
Gilps Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 i don't see what the big deal is with emerson. he's a poor man's george boateng. Don't rate him myself, but he's consistently done a decent job at club level in Italy. The oddest thing is why the feck did Cristiano Zanetti and Marco Marchionni agree to join Juventus after this had all broken?
Leo No.8 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 (edited) It always astonishes me how highly Emerson is rated whenever I see him play. He's incredibly average - like Stevie says, just a holding midfielder with no exceptional talent, no better than someone like Boateng. I think he's extremely lucky to have played in the sides he has. Another player mentioned - Ibrahimovic; he really is crap; I've tried to convince myself otherwise, but I've seen him about 20 times now and he's been woeful every time, so if I came to any other conclusion I'd be doing so with no justification. He might have talent, but no more than plenty of top players and his application and attitude are dreadful. Edited June 27, 2006 by Leo No.8
Guest jbs Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Disagree, think he's past his best now. He certainly was but let's put it this way we know Carvalho is a very effective centre back in the Premiership. We don't know the same of Cannavaro. I watched Cannavaro yesterday against Australia and he was immense. He is getting on a bit but I couldn't see it in his play, in my opinion still the greatest defender on the planet.

It always always amazes me how phenomenally good he is in the air for a man of his size. Every time I see him win a header against a player 4 inches taller than him it's like he's defying gravity.
cochyn Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Abramovich must have the 2000-01 version of CM. Watch him go for Cherno Samba, and Biscan next. PS: I've heard a certain Irish winger would "love" a move here.
cymrococh Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 PS: I've heard a certain Irish winger would "love" a move here. Richie Partridge can feck off.

He is an inspiration to short central defenders everywhere! It will be a shame if a class player like him goes to Chelski. I don't think that he will have any problems in the premiership.
D.Boon Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Cannavaro has dodgy knees. This world cup has simply strengthened the case for Carvalho being a superb defender.
growler Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 this is great news. I hope it continues. Who else can they buy? I hope they get Carlos and fat Ronaldo. Its like Bolton with money!!! what will happen in 2 seasons? How will they keep them all happy? I hope they also sign Vieira and a few others. In the line up what about Kalou and Obi Wan Mikelbi
fyds Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 How can this be good for us. If Abramovich was mortgaging the clubs future to bring in these players I'd agree but I fail to see how signing Cannavaro, Shevchenko and Ballack has weakened Chelsea. Maybe rotation will start to upset a few but I'm sure these players are being bought primarily to win the CL league and each one weakens the opposition and makes Chelsea's job easier. It's getting beyond a f***ing joke now ..But EXACTLY the sort of player you need to win the CL. Roman is bored with league titles he wants big ears and will buy anyone to get it. So how well have Inter done in Europe? I'm sure you've guaged their thinking correctly mate, but their logic doesn't add up.
