Guest Red Mist Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 F*ck off Scolari, who the f*ck does he think he is talking about fair play? His teams don't know the meaning of the term. Portugal should be thrown out after their behaviour last night, an affront to fair play and sportsmanship in football, something which has been totally lacking in this tournament.
Nebraska Red Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i thought that foul by deco was hilarious. I thought it was a disgrace and an act of utter stupidity. So what if they did not give you the ball back, you only had to wait a few minutes and tackle the player hard, but fair. Instead, he chose to act like a child and should have been sent off. This "giving the ball back crap" is becoming a bit tiresome. Just have the ref lob the ball back to the team who had possession and be done with it.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 it was - up there with the Cameroonians on that Argentine bloke in 1990. Comedy fouling
Knox_Harrington Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i thought that foul by deco was hilarious. It was f***ing brilliant and shouldn't have been a yellow. He sprinted over and did him and it was richly deserved. A good, old-fashioned, roll around now like you're Claudio Canniga (sp?) chop you motherf*****. You can't have it both ways and criticise players for being soft and then when one goes in hard for good reason slag him off. Agree that the giving the ball back stuff is tiresome but it's the way the game had been played up to that point. For the Dutch to decide they were suddenly above it was s****.
Nebraska Red Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 found this on FIFA.com. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060625/1/89xs.html 'Compliments to Scolari'25 June 2006by FIFAworldcup.com TSG Analysis by Rodrigo KENTON (CRC)The meeting between Portugal and the Netherlands was packed with incident, fighting spirit and passion. Throughout the match, the players on both sides gave everything and showed they were utterly determined to reach the next stage. Portugal enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges thanks to their outstanding players Luis Figo, Deco, Cristiano Ronaldo and Maniche. For the Dutch, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie were the best performers early on. Portugal were forced to make a change after the injury to Ronaldo, and then Costinha?s sending-off just before half-time necessitated another substitution. The Netherlands were firmly in control at the start of the second period, using their classic 4-3-3 formation to launch attacks down the flanks and pepper the Portuguese box with crosses. Wide men Robben and Van Persie gave reasonable displays, but the tactics were fairly predictable. The game became more evenly balanced after the Dutch had a man sent off, and the Portuguese opened up for a spell. Deco, operating in tandem with Maniche, had been shaping the match and dictating the pace, but the Netherlands gained the upper hand after Deco was dismissed and were only denied an equaliser by the Portuguese keeper. I believe compliments are due to Portugal coach Luis Felipe Scolari, who has brought his team up to a level they have never reached previously. After the first sending-off, he restricted himself to one change in midfield and continued to play with two strikers. He thus underlined one of the basic premises of the game: attack is the best form of defence. It was a good strategy, and it ultimately led to victory. Nevertheless, Portugal were a class act in defence today too. The defenders were well-prepared to cope with the Netherlands? attacking tactics, and the twin centre-halves coped comfortably whenever a cross did penetrate into the box. At the end of the day, Portugal deserved the win, if only for cleverly protecting the narrowest of leads through to the final whistle. It reads like a good, clean game. What are we on about?

Agree that the giving the ball back stuff is tiresome but it's the way the game had been played up to that point. For the Dutch to decide they were suddenly above it was s****. if that happened in a Sunday League game, there would be murder. If it happened at Anfield to a Liverpool player, you would go berserk. Is that the way we want to see the game played? If the ref does not take action, or an opposing player does not "do the right thing" it is OK for players to go after the other player and chop him down? The referee is in charge of discipline on the pitch, not idiots like Deco. Even if he is doing a poor job, the players do not the right to give out what they feel is "richly deserved." many of the players are soft and they bend and abuse the rules of the game, but there is never a good reason to do what Deco did yesterday.
Stevie H Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Is that the way we want to see the game played? If the ref does not take action, or an opposing player does not "do the right thing" it is OK for players to go after the other player and chop him down? yes, it is. the dutch player broke the rules by not giving the ball back, so deco stopped them taking any advantage from it. the cheating flat-countried dope-smoking cyclists.
Knox_Harrington Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 If it happened at Anfield to a Liverpool player, you would go berserk.Yes it is OK in that instance. All game they were giving the ball back then suddenly they don't? Because they are in a huff. f*** them. Had it been a Liverpool player who did the chopping, I would have been f***ing made up. As would you.

sutty Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 reminded me of Ole on shearer....except Ole just got up and walked off the pitch....didnt hang around to see the colour of the card.beautiful. Rob Lee?
Stevie H Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 reminded me of Ole on shearer....except Ole just got up and walked off the pitch....didnt hang around to see the colour of the card.beautiful.nothing like. solskjaer's was a pure cynical professional foul, whereas deco's was a big 'f*** you'.

sutty Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 nothing like. solskjaer's was a pure cynical professional foul, whereas deco's was a big 'f*** you'. And it was on Rob Lee, not Shearer OM knows feck all about footy
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I think the ref should just have laughed & let it go. Then watched the game descend into 'It's a knockout'
Knox_Harrington Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 (edited) nothing like. solskjaer's was a pure cynical professional foul, whereas deco's was a big 'f*** you'.Gerrard on Gary Naysmith. Wonderful. EDIT: In fact no because that came out of nowhere. This did have a root cause. All Naysmith had done wrong was don an Everton shirt. Edited June 26, 2006 by Knox_Harrington

psl Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Deco's was a filthy tackle and he should have been given a straight red card.
Stevie H Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Deco's was a filthy tackle and he should have been given a straight red card. mitigating circumstances, man. sneijder was lucky it was little deco and not someone like carvalho who would have broken his legs.
Bigal Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 liverpool v leeds. Everyone stops as a liverpool player is down, mills runs towards goal gets about 25 yards out and gerrard snaps him in 2. Thats what it reminds me of. Hold on Danny Mills, where is "who is it safe to mock thread"
Ostrich Man Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 (edited) still beautiful though see i even remember it being a night game. god my memory is f***ed. Edited June 26, 2006 by Ostrich Man
