Portugal to appeal Deco red-card?

F*ck off Scolari, who the f*ck does he think he is talking about fair play? His teams don't know the meaning of the term. Portugal should be thrown out after their behaviour last night, an affront to fair play and sportsmanship in football, something which has been totally lacking in this tournament.

I thought it was a disgrace and an act of utter stupidity.

 

So what if they did not give you the ball back, you only had to wait a few minutes and tackle the player hard, but fair. Instead, he chose to act like a child and should have been sent off.

 

This "giving the ball back crap" is becoming a bit tiresome. Just have the ref lob the ball back to the team who had possession and be done with it.

It was f***ing brilliant and shouldn't have been a yellow. He sprinted over and did him and it was richly deserved. A good, old-fashioned, roll around now like you're Claudio Canniga (sp?) chop you motherf*****.

The meeting between Portugal and the Netherlands was packed with incident, fighting spirit and passion. Throughout the match, the players on both sides gave everything and showed they were utterly determined to reach the next stage.

Portugal enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges thanks to their outstanding players Luis Figo, Deco, Cristiano Ronaldo and Maniche. For the Dutch, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie were the best performers early on. Portugal were forced to make a change after the injury to Ronaldo, and then Costinha?s sending-off just before half-time necessitated another substitution.

 

The Netherlands were firmly in control at the start of the second period, using their classic 4-3-3 formation to launch attacks down the flanks and pepper the Portuguese box with crosses. Wide men Robben and Van Persie gave reasonable displays, but the tactics were fairly predictable.

 

The game became more evenly balanced after the Dutch had a man sent off, and the Portuguese opened up for a spell. Deco, operating in tandem with Maniche, had been shaping the match and dictating the pace, but the Netherlands gained the upper hand after Deco was dismissed and were only denied an equaliser by the Portuguese keeper.

 

I believe compliments are due to Portugal coach Luis Felipe Scolari, who has brought his team up to a level they have never reached previously. After the first sending-off, he restricted himself to one change in midfield and continued to play with two strikers. He thus underlined one of the basic premises of the game: attack is the best form of defence. It was a good strategy, and it ultimately led to victory.

 

Nevertheless, Portugal were a class act in defence today too. The defenders were well-prepared to cope with the Netherlands? attacking tactics, and the twin centre-halves coped comfortably whenever a cross did penetrate into the box. At the end of the day, Portugal deserved the win, if only for cleverly protecting the narrowest of leads through to the final whistle.

if that happened in a Sunday League game, there would be murder.

 

If it happened at Anfield to a Liverpool player, you would go berserk.

 

Is that the way we want to see the game played? If the ref does not take action, or an opposing player does not "do the right thing" it is OK for players to go after the other player and chop him down?

 

The referee is in charge of discipline on the pitch, not idiots like Deco. Even if he is doing a poor job, the players do not the right to give out what they feel is "richly deserved."

 

many of the players are soft and they bend and abuse the rules of the game, but there is never a good reason to do what Deco did yesterday.

yes, it is. the dutch player broke the rules by not giving the ball back, so deco stopped them taking any advantage from it. the cheating flat-countried dope-smoking cyclists.
