Barnesy_10 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I would rather my club team won the Champions League/League Title than my country won the world cup? I find it unbelievable that anyone could think any different! Was only aware of this when speaking to some people on a night out and how shocked they were that I had that attitude! Not one person agreed with me and some of them are hardcore footy supporters with season tickets for their respective club. Then tonight I got a rollocking off my mum when I told her I was cheering Ecuador on
liverbird04 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I watched the england game and just wasn't arsed ,in the end I wanted ecuador to score to make it more exciting ,I was even pissed off beckham scored cos the thought ran through my head of another 4 years of beckham living off the back of one goal. I never used to be this cynical ,it must be age ,but I just can't cheer for england anymore like I used to. Liverpool everytime for me I can support all the players ,for england I hate most of them and I just can't change that mindset.
Guest bluehouse Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I would rather my club team won the Champions League/League Title than my country won the world cup? Depends when you speak to people, If LFC are in the CL, ask the same people again they may have a different answer. I find it unbelievable that anyone could think any different! Falconhoof Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I was shocked at how indifferent I was to England. Loads of d****eads in the pub, just a quiet normal little pub and there's blokes acting 'hard' screaming at the plasma screen and trying to get 'German bombers' started, whatever that song is. Just makes me depressed to see such empty aggression with no enjoyment of the tournament as a whole. I got a lot more enjoyment watching Germany, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Spain... than watching England.
HeWonItFromBrock Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Deep down I do want England to win but there is a part of me that doesn't as the likes of Lampard and Ferdinand would be absolutely unbearable if they were to win it.
_00_deathscar Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I got a lot more enjoyment watching Germany, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Spain... than watching England. That's because they actually play FOOTBALL as opposed to the excuse for football that England serve up. It's a butchering of the game it really is ....
Rico Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I'd rather Liverpool won the Premiership and England won the World Cup, TBH. If nothing else, maybe people would stop going the f*ck on about nineteen sixty-f*cking-six! Man, I'm so sick of hearing about that. It's embarrassing that we harp on about it so much after 40 years, and just serves to illustrate how much we've underacheived since. Liverpool FC is more important to me than the England football team, but it's still important to me that the national team does well, and there's no way on Earth I could see myself cheering on another country to beat England. Now, cheering on another country to beat Germany, Argentina or France, now that's another matter...
Suth Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i was kind of hoping Ecuador got an equaliser just so I could watch extra time. I like watching england just because its football and its something to do but I'm not that assed. Liverpool winning anything is a different feeling altogether.
sutty Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I'm indifferent to England. I'm sort of supporting Australia for some reason. I've enjoyed watching them and Spain.
liverbird04 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I have enjoyed watching Spain, they play good football ,Xabi Alonso has been a joy to watch as usual ,England must wish they had someone like him. you sven would probably play out of position so it would be a waste anyway.
Gravy Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Well, just think of the joy you miserable bar stewards will miss out on if we do win the WC. I can't see it to be honest, but then none of us thought we could go all the way in the CL last year when it started. Never say never. Just imagine how sick you lot of England bashers/haters will be.
liverbird04 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I wouldn't be surprised if england go all the way ,I'm starting to get that feeling they just might . Don't get me wrong I wouldn't be gutted if england did win ,I just watch England with a sort of detachment that I never used too thats all. If England go all the way and Crouch or Gerrard scores the winner I will cheer with the rest of them ,if Lampard /beckham score the winner I'll be a bit gutted cos it will mean a lifetime of hearing about it and I just really can't be arsed with that.

Not bashing england myself. Just not that interested. The fact they have played absolute rubbish football hasn't helped stimulate any interest either.

I think Fat Fw*** has been shown up for what he is, a hugely over-rated one trick pony with a mis-firing trick.Beckham annoys me to death & the 'Undroppable' one should be a sub at best.Sven hasn't got a clue & everyone knows itBUT I'm English & want England to win & would love to see Stevie G, Carra & Crouchy happy as they would be winning (in the unlikely event of it happening see how much it means to them). Being a Fanatical red & wanting England to do well, as a proud Englishman, are not incompatible.Fookin' Celts who whine the most as they're all johnny nobody's with chips on their shoulder
Guest Phil G Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I think he'll drop Lampard and play Crouch in the QF. He knows he has to. Plus with Rooney dropping deep you take away the need for the two attacking midfielders.
_00_deathscar Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I think he'll drop Lampard and play Crouch in the QF. He knows he has to He does? So hell DID freeze over then....
Bigal Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 to be honest, am indifferent for england, am enjoying the good football of the world cup though, which sadly england isnt playing
Gunga Din Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i like waatching the world cup, but it comes nowhere near watching the Reds. i'd rather we won a league match than Ireland win the world cup tbh
vish Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 these kind of hypotheticals get boring after a while. Just f***ing watch the world cup will you. And if you don't like England, then don't watch em.
Guest Wilko Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I'd rather see Liverpool win a pre season friendly than that shower of boring s**** win the World Cup!
Stevie H Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i find it really hard to get enthusiastic about england because of the circus which surrounds it. plus i can't take any team seriously which has beckham as its undroppable captain and which changes tactics and formations from game to game.
Knox_Harrington Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 BUT I'm English & want England to win & would love to see Stevie G, Carra & Crouchy happy as they would be winning (in the unlikely event of it happening see how much it means to them). But what you would see, for the next forty years, is the media-hungry slags in the English side, Beckham, Lampard, Ferdinand, Coles jumping up and down about how they won the World Cup. Just think about that. Think about those faces, think about how after they retire you still have to see them, about how when Beckham dies there will be a f***ing state funeral. Sweet Jesus.

So?Not enjoyable I grant you, but the Daily Post would show pics of Stevie G and I'd settle for that.I wasn't a West Ham fan in 6 (albeit only 2 at the time!) and I'm not big on Geoff Hurst or Bobbie Moore but I respect what they did. If you take your line Knox, and it's only fair & right to hear everybodys-it is still a free country?- then the 'Suvan' media means we can't be proud to be English in the North?

They will never stop showing Beckham lifting the trophy. He'll probably get a fecking knighthood as well. And if there was ever a manager who did not deserve to become a World Cup winning manager it is Eriksson. It's not gonna happen...it's not gonna happen...it's not gonna happen...
