Atkinson has got to be better than a woeful Lawrensen today. But hang on... Atkinson was stoned to death over his mic slip whenever it was...

In retrospect he wasn't racist IMHO. Just cracking a joke/comment that was in poor taste.

Come on now, who amongst us hasn't had negative thoughts about certain peoples (Belgians) in our time? Oh, ye may mock but deep down...deep down!

Feck your luck when Ayline gets in.

Look, you've got to call it how it is and how Blair and Bush have refrained from sending in the bombers for all this time I've no idea.

Have you CCTV on here you c*nt, when do you sleep?

Big Ron was on, now I know he's a feckin knobb of the highets order and he deserves to be hung out to dry for what he said but he's on a different level to those silly BBC c*nts. Can't we just give him a public flogging with Marcel weilding the whip, make him apologise in front of 17 Zillion people and let bygones be bygones? :)

You still don't think what he said was inexcusable, do you?

see, i dont thik Big Ron is a racist. i think he's just stupid and a bit ignorant. he probably did a lot more for black footballers in the late 70's and early 80's than any other manager at that time.

Black players would have emerged in the English game anyway with or without the help of that c*nt.

He called Desailly a "thick lazy n****r" when he thought we couldn't hear him. He's a big fat racist Manc c*nt. F*ck him.

Quite agree - At WBA in the 70's he brought through Cyrille Regis, Laurie Cunningham and Brendan Batson. Also as a co-commentator he talks a lot of sense - a lot better than Lawro. I'd rather have Big Rons insight into the game any day.

What a load of b*llocks, he's a f*CKING RACIST C*NT. Do you think he played those players for any other reason than to get himself into the spotlight?

Can't believe some of the sh*t in this thread, very surprised at some people.

Met him about 10 years ago at a benefit do (I was there on freebie), nice bloke and no considering he spent a fair portion of the evening chatting to a black group of lads I very much doubt he's racist, more thick in the way's of today.

I?ve never bought the ?he brought black players through so he can?t be racist? argument.

A man might well feel that some black men are physically fine athletes who would aid their team whilst also believing them to be mentally inferior (?thick n******? if you like). Which would obviously be a racist attitude.

If calling a 'black lad' a stupid n*gger isn't enough to make you think he's a racist I don't know what would be.

now now, accuracy please. atkinson didn't call desailly 'stupid', the word was 'thick'.

I can't believe this line is ever deployed. I spend a fair portion of my time in here chatting to idiots. Does that mean I am filled with brotherly love towards them?

And just like people would get admonished in here for using Becks, Lamps or JT, the thread title should not be the quasi-affectionate "Big Ron", but at the very least "Big FAT Ron" or, more appropriately, "That racist t***, Atkinson"

He has most definitely NOT served his time and - supreme irony - the butt of his racism is commenting intelligently on matches for the BBC and making more sense in what would be his fourth language than the fat slimy racist ever has in his first.

Motson and Lawrenson were absolutely horrible yesterday. When they saw that carragher was coming on, Lawrenson sparked up with the amazing:

"Well he'll be going into midfield, unless he goes in as right back to replace hargreaves."

Lo and behold he replaces cole and the team reshuffles hargreaves into midfield with carra at right back.

Motzon went on to congratulate him with:

"That's a good call Mark."

Like he's some kind of football prophet. Indeed, I was surprised Carra didn't replace Rooney up front. Thank god for Lawro's 'insight' otherwise I might have made a right t*** of myself infront of my mates in the pub.

And Lawro's 'comedy' impression of Sven when he said 'weeeelllll' in a camp faux swedish accent. He should be burned alive for that.

Oh, and for the record, inspite of the fact that Ron Atkinson is a racist f***** (not unlike David Pleat imo), he happens to be an absolutely s**** commentator aswell.

Aragones is a c*nt too.

Why do you want to be lenient on Atkinson? You either think that what he said was disgraceful and that there is no place for people who hold his views in British broadcasting, or you think it was a slip of the tongue, an easy mistake to make etc, which implies that you think his views are acceptable unless spoken out loud.

Perhaps it is, perhaps it isn't.

I didn't have a clue what you were on about. Now I do.

How can anybody in their right mind not condemn Atkinson for what he said?

well, he actually said "he is what some might call..............."

he paraphrased, is it ok then?
