Guest Jack Bauer Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 What teams can England play if they beat Ecuador?
intense enigma Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 What teams can England play if they beat Ecuador? Holland or Portugal, no?
DazzlaJ Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 From the BBC England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is considering giving Michael Carrick his first World Cup finals appearance. It is understood Eriksson may switch to a 4-5-1 system for the Ecuador game, with Wayne Rooney on his own up front. Carrick is expected to come in for Owen Hargreaves, who will move to right-back with Jamie Carragher left out. Rio Ferdinand is still a doubt because of the groin injury which took him out of the Sweden game, so Sol Campbell stands by to replace him. Sven, what a tosser

Zoob Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Perhaps he should give Walcott a go as a defensive midfielder.
Dan Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 sorry but carra has been pretty sh*te (particularly going forward & distribution). Not his fault, he's just not an international full back.
DazzlaJ Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 sorry but carra has been pretty sh*te (particularly going forward & distribution). Not his fault, he's just not an international full back. So you think Owen Hargreaves is a better full back?
Spike Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 when it kicks off I'll be somewhere over the sea on the way to the US. If i see Erickssons mind up there in the clouds I'll ask the pilot ti run the f***** over!
Nebraska Red Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Perhaps he should give Walcott a go as a defensive midfielder. Walcott's in goal you numpty. Why drop the only defensive full back and the only player capable of covering up for frogface and Terry? Why even bother trying to make sense of Sven's selections? He is the new tinker man.
Dan Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 So you think Owen Hargreaves is a better full back? Not sure tbh. Not seen enough of him there
Spike Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 sorry but carra has been pretty sh*te (particularly going forward & distribution). Not his fault, he's just not an international full back. f***ing bulls*** there lad. I have said more than once how Carra makes the runs out wide but Mr Rightfoot always plays the diagonal instead of actually looking for the easier option. Methinks that Beckhams brain can't process scouse
R A Softlad Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Carra could and should still get in if Ferdinand's not fit... or even if he is.

Methinks that Beckhams brain can't process scouse sorry lad but methinks your brain is biased scouse. He's a legend at Anfield but has underperformed at RB for England - its never been his strong point going forward. He's a defender first and foremost - and a f*ckin good one, but lets not bullsh*t ourselves, he aint an international full back.

I think their point is more why play Hargreaves there when he's a defensive mid... if they decided to play Beckham there who plays in that position for Real, then they wouldn't be complaining
Benitez Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 (edited) I don't think Carra has played well defensively. Against Sweden, he was beaten easily a few times down the wing. But he certainly has been making some decent forward runs. It ain't his fault he makes the runs for no fecin good reason, cos twuntyb******s does his own thing in midfield, to the detrement of the team he's allegedly captain of. (Not that I'm saying Hargreaves should play at right back, thats just laughable. An out of sorts Carra is still a million times better than Hargreaves at right back). Edited June 23, 2006 by Benitez
Nebraska Red Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 if Sven had any testicles, he would play 3 center backs and put Cole and Beckham as the wide men. he would have options then if things don't go well. however, to have operational testicles, he has to first have a brain and there lies the problem.
Dan Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I think their point is more why play Hargreaves there when he's a defensive mid... if they decided to play Beckham there who plays in that position for Real, then they wouldn't be complaining I can understand that to a certain extent although i've thought that Carra's place was most vulnerable in the team after the last couple of games. Hargreaves is very mobile and seems to be able to defend well (not as good as Carra mind) but will get forward and distribute the ball much better. He's not an international full back either but i can't say i'm surprised by the change.
CarraLegend Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 So a defensive midfielder has a very good game in defensive midfield position, next game he gets moved to right back, a holding midfielder (Who cant defend) who has barely played a minute of a competitive game for England comes in after being left in the cold even in most friendlies for the knockout game in a World Cup, the best or 2nd best English centre half will be left to rot on the bench even if Ferdinand isn't fit, Titus Campbell who has been horrific all season comes into the team and a striker who has barely played a minute in 6 weeks is now expected to run himself into the ground as a lone striker. Righteo, ok. You know we'll sneak past them with a late goal or something and he'll probably try the same against Holland/Portugal and we'll get mauled.
Guest Rob Jones 411 Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 on the alter of Davids ego .... Looks like one of the only true fighters in the EEEEEEngland squad is the scapegoat for the bad performance against Sweden. Becharm was reported to be at fault for both goals by TV pundits and some of the press after the game but he was seen giving it large to Carra who was marking a player behind Posh's chap. The balls where allowed to float in without the first man ( Posh's poodle) doing anything to halt the flick on. After the game SG had words with Skipper Bechs over his words with Carra and it looks like Sven has backed his skipper ...do you think Sven gets seconds on the boney one? Maybe we will see the last of the white vans with the cross of St ( I am not English) George after sunday.
Guest Phil G Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 (edited) I can see the logic in the side he wants to play, but it just seems ludicrous that he's having to do it to accomodate a player, captain or not, who offers very little apart from set-piece deliveries, and who should really be dropped. If he wants to experiment, he should put Stevie on the right, where he was so effective for us last season, allowing him to play his holding midfielder alongside Lampard. These are the kinds of strong decisions that need to be made in big tournaments for the good of the team. Edited June 24, 2006 by Phil G
