_00_deathscar Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=371697&cc=5739 Kewell faces ban after insulting referee Harry Kewell could miss Australia's final group match after being charged by FIFA with insulting referee Markus Merk following the 2-0 defeat by Brazil. The Liverpool winger has been reported by Merk for swearing at the German official several times after the final whistle and disciplinary proceedings have been opened against him. A decision will be announced before Australia's last game of Group F against Croatia in Stuttgart on Thursday. FIFA communications director Markus Siegler said: 'FIFA have opened disciplinary procedures against Harry Kewell. It was reported in the referee's report that he insulted the referee several times. He has until tomorrow [June 20] to respond and a decision will be taken before Australia's final group match.' Meanwhile, a FIFA's disciplinary committee are still studying the USA v Italy match in which there were three red cards. Italy's Daniele de Rossi and the USA's Pablo Mastroeni and Eddie Pope will all miss at least one match and a decision on whether they will receive extra suspension will be announce before June 23. Roma midfielder de Rossi in particular is in danger of being given a further ban after elbowing Brian McBride in the face during the 1-1 draw, leaving the Fulham striker dripping blood. Guest Kev Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Merk was poor, an uneducated eye might have thought that he was told/encouraged to give decisions to Brazil. It will be interesting to see if we get Merk next season. Everyone was slating Jorge Larrionda (the ref from Italy/USA), yet I reckon Merk had a worse game.

Listened to some of the game on R5 yesterday, and Alan Green was diplomatically suggesting it could be thought he had favoured Brazil
Guest Cally77 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I've never liked that Merk ever since he was the fourth official in the England-Holland game when we got beat and failed to qualify under Graeme Taylor. He always struck me as a fussy type. "Do I not like him"
Cooldude Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Seen the incident, H did drag on and on for a long time, but if he gets suspended for that then it's just f***ing piss weak Merk was s*** anyway, everytime an Aus player went a metre near a Brazilian, the whistle goes. c***
Frosty Jack Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I don't think Australia can really claim the referee impacted on the game, they looked like a pub team and were soundly beaten by a Brazil side only just hitting second gear. Besides that they got lucky against Japan with that peno, so even if there was a valid complaint, what goes around comes around. I'm really starting to dislike the Australia team, dirty fouling b******s.
Cooldude Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I don't think anyone said the ref impacted on the game, we're just saying the ref was s***, which we would all agree with
mally Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I'm really starting to dislike the Australia team, dirty fouling b******s. you forgot fat
Frosty Jack Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 you forgot fat yeah that too, dirty fouling fat motherf***ing b******s
berdoing Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Maybe I missed that Australian player stamping on Ronaldo.
Figaro Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Like Harry's haircut now - none of the gay hairbands. Once the brazilians come up against a decent team WITH a decent striker(s) they will be out of the competition.

Or maybe he's not competent enough to know that he can do that after the final whistle ?
Paul B Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 It would have been nice if Kewell had ever shown that level of passion during his stint with Liverpool, wouldn't it?
slapnuts Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Like Harry's haircut now - none of the gay hairbands. Once the brazilians come up against a decent team WITH a decent striker(s) they will be out of the competition. whats gay about hair bands?
Benzo-13 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 It would have been nice if Kewell had ever shown that level of passion during his stint with Liverpool, wouldn't it? He's still here..
libero Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 He's still here..Dont let the facts get in the way of a good Harry bashing....
CarraLegend Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 If Harry is angry he should take out his anger and kill Lucas Neill in training
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 interestingly, reading the Graham Poll interview, he says it's no longer about 'foul & abusive' language, but now 'abusive'. He says he gets told to f*** off about 25 times a game & if the 'foul' part of the language thing had to be adhered to, there'd be no-one left on the pitch. I also thought Merk was s****. He'd give all 50/50's to Brasil & even give them free's where they were doing the fouling.Merk awarded 25 free-kicks to Brazil while Australia won only nine, says a lot
Benzo-13 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Ah, Brazil.. They are nothing but FIFA's team. Good on ya Harry!!
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 I don't think Australia can really claim the referee impacted on the game, they looked like a pub team and were soundly beaten by a Brazil side only just hitting second gear. If we looked like a pub team against the world champions, and favourites, I'd hate to think what england looked like against the mighty T&T, a game which they clearly struggled to dominate.
Nebraska Red Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Jeez, anyone would think that FIFA had an agenda to get the really good (or most popular) teams in to the next phase.
