Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 he plays for an Israeli team - just trying to curry favour as I see it
Guest Red Mist Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mong. Go play for Israel if you want to wave their flag!
Hassony Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 and what will they punish him for?the world cup is no place for a political statement
Falconhoof Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 He plays for an Israeli club. ban all national flags at the world cup ?
smithdown Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Hapoel Tel Aviv he plays for, maybe he is after a contract or something. When I saw it I thought it might be some Rasta/Zion kind of thing, didn't realise he played there. I guess in some ways you could say its a political statement but doesn't really look that big a deal does it?
Benitez Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 love to see FIFA trying to prove he's making some big political gesture by waving a little flag of the country he plays his football in
Hassony Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 so it would be ok for Owen hargreaves to wave a german flag if he scores for england?
Benitez Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 so it would be ok for Owen hargreaves to wave a german flag if he scores for england? fans couldn't hate him any more than they do, so why not! Tell yer what, if Beckham waved a Spanish flag after he scores for England, he'd earn a few brownie points round 'ere
Falconhoof Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 so it would be ok for Owen hargreaves to wave a german flag if he scores for england? yes of course it would.
Guest Red Mist Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 yes of course it would. No it would not. Why wave the flag of another country when your own country has won a game? I?m not suggesting such players be punished since they?re not breaking any rules, but supporters of their team should give him hell for promoting another country after such a good victory.
smithdown Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 (edited) so it would be ok for Owen hargreaves to wave a german flag if he scores for england? I'd be chuffed if Alonso pulled out a miniature "Momo is Boss" Mali flag when he scores. Seriously though, mate, I can see where you are coming from with it being the Israeli flag and all but punishing him would look a bit heavy I think. Edited June 18, 2006 by smithdown
forde Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 so it would be ok for Owen hargreaves to wave a german flag if he scores for england?Yes it would! Go on you elephants

Guest 3an86 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 he's just making an a*** out of himself and his native country.
forde Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 (edited) he's just making an a*** out of himself and his native country.Yea i am sure the whole of Ghana after there first ever world cup win are really ashamed of him right now! Edited June 18, 2006 by forde
stressederic Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Bit of a lucky coincidence someone happened to have an Israeli flag on them. I mean in a Ghana v Czech Republic match, what are the odds of that happening?
Kahnee Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Assuming he didn't have the flag shoved down his shorts for just such an occasion, I'm assuming he got the flag from a fan in the crowd, in the same way Momo and Nando had their national flags on them when they went to pick up their medals in Cardiff.
McBain Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Surprised Beckham hasn't tried to claim The Star of David as his own yet
Zoob Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I can't believe anyone would care about this enough to post about it. I think it's a pretty strange thing to do, but who knows what his motives were - nothing to say it was anything political. Perhaps he's just been made to feel very welcome in Israel and wanted to show his appreciation. If he'd been playing in some other country (who, like Israel had not qualified for the WC) I'm sure people would find it equally surprising, but wouldn't be as strangely outraged as some people on here seem to be.
