In the past few seasons he has gone from a speedy dangerous forward to a very immobile player who seems to have no confidence and certainly isn't enjoying his game. His body language is awful and yesterday he seemed like he got in the way of other players more than anything else. I hope SGE doesn't continue playing him on his past rather than his current form.

He seemes to play with an anguished fearful look on his face, far from the young lad who would rub his hands togethor and have a beam on his face after scoring.

He looks like he's got some nagging doubt haunting his every move...

I reckon he is totally unfit and is only playing because SGE would rather risk him getting injured now so he has Waynetta for later.

He came back from his injuries way too quickly because he was desperate to play in this World Cup. Probably his last chance at competing in a big tournament.

I know his fitness has a lot to do with it but he just doesn't look like he enjoys his game anymore, even prior to his injury. He looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.

nothings wrong with him.

he's recovering from a bad injury and he's playing for an absolute idiot who has his defence and midfield about 50 yards behind his strikers.

He's steadily gotten worse as a player. That's why I'm glad we're no longer interested in bringing him back, we've already seen the best of Owen and reaped the rewards. Newcastle have been left with the shadow of what he was.

saw the thread title and the first few lines of the thread and though i'd pop in and post something uncannily similar to this..

fkin 'ell, anyone would think the lad hadn't scored for 6 years or something! i honestly can't believe that people who claim to have been watching Liverpool for years, most certainly in the days when Michael Owen had the pleaseure of playing for us, can question him - particularly after injury..

I'm not questioning MO's ability or what he did for us I am commenting on the fact that he doesn't appear to be enjoying his game and it has been that way for a while now.

I think in this situation you can raise questions about him and injuries.

he will have known before the selection deadline just how fit he was, especially with Waynetta being a doubt. the fault lies with both Owen and SGE for putting him in the squad and team if he is hurt. if he is not hurt, his form has taken a nosedive.

he got 7 in 10 games for Newcastle last season before he got injured. He's played about 3 hours of footy in the last 6 months

shame

He was always like this when he came back from injury for us. short memories.

yes he was. But he was not injury-prone, he just got injured a lot.

Is about right. He's only played about 4 hours of football in 2006 and always takes about 4 or 5 games to get back into it. To say he's finished etc is ott.

apologies then lar.. disregarding his ability from this then yes i would agree with you - he doesn't look happy (but who can blame him really at the moment)..

..actually, rather than me try and explain how i feel about Mickey at this point it might be worth bringing Knox's article back up - it's quite fitting to the current ambience surrounding the young man with how most of us feel than i could articulate at this moment - i thought it was a cracking piece at the time.. would probably go down a storm now!

big deal being made out of the lack of quality service for michael owen today, not least by michael owen: i'm frustrated, but i'm not going to change. fact's are that if you're not getting service, you need to work just as hard as the midfield to make it happen. which doesn't mean playing on the last shoulder and running away from them. most decent forwards would be prepared and able to come back into midfield, or work the channels (why did lennon need to come on in the first place?), make themselves available to keep the ball moving.

there was a thing in the guardian today which showed that rooney has already recieved and passed the ball more times than michael owen in this world cup.

He's still a brilliant player who will come back and score goals. There are a lot of people with short memories who will have egg on their face soon enough.

He always takes 5 or 6 games to get back to his best. As I said in the other thread, people always write him off when he's in one of these post-injury slumps and he always proves them wrong.

Well he can still score goals, no doubt, but he's not as good as he was. He's at the age footballers are supposed to peak but his best ever form was YEARS ago. It's only downhill from here.
