LIVERPOOL target Craig Bellamy will discover if his dream move to Anfield will go ahead within the next two weeks.

The Blackburn striker has a £6m get-out clause in his contract, but that expires at the end of this month.

If Liverpool don't activate the clause within the next fortnight, they'll be unable to secure the Welshman's services for the same cut-price fee.

Bellamy has emerged as the most likely striking target for manager Rafa Benitez due to the postponement of Djibril Cisse's £8m transfer.

Had Cisse been sold, Benitez was ready to use the funds for a swoop for Charlton's Darren Bent.

However, the Spanish boss recognises Bellamy would represent top value for £6m, although there are still significant discussions ongoing at Anfield to determine the pros and cons of a Bellamy bid.

The fiery Welshman certainly possesses all the attributes Liverpool are seeking, but the meticulous Benitez wants to be sure the player's off-field reputation has been exaggerated.

The clock is ticking though, and now Benitez is considering whether to test the validity of the £6m get-out clause claims which have been widely reported by making a formal bid.

Liverpool will be helped by the fact Bellamy is desperate to join the Reds and has even indicated to friends he'd take a pay-cut to move to Merseyside.

If Liverpool make a move, it's understood Bellamy would demand his sale.

Spurs are also chasing the pacy frontman, while Rovers are desperate to keep him and have offered new terms which remove the £6m clause.

What's clear is if Bellamy doesn't sign for Liverpool before the end of this month, his chances of doing so will be over.

Part of his attraction is the bargain he'd seemingly represent, butif adeal isn't done soon Benitez will turn his attention back to other striking targets.

While a Bellamy deal remains under consideration, Liverpool remain encouraged by developments in their pursuit of Daniel Alves.

Seville are now resigned to losing their Brazilian and have targeted Arsenal's Lauren as a re placement.

Liverpool hope to confirm Gary Ablett as the new reserve team boss shortly. However, his switch across Stanley Park has been delayed because Everton are claiming compensation.

I thought the clause expired at the end of July.

would prefer Bellamy to Darren Bent

'Benitez is considering whether to test the validity of the £6m get-out clause claims which have been widely reported by making a formal bid'

so basically no one really knows if the clause is true!

They've got to pay for that new stadium somehow!

That's what I like to hear.

I really think we should move for him. It's obvious we haven't got the same cash resources as other clubs and Bellamy at £6million is just too good to turn down.

It's been reported on an interweb forum. How can it not be true?

So that's why we're not matching Chelsea's £35m bids for anything with two legs !

And I really wanted to blame Moores & Parry !

Go get him I say. Pacey, strong and a handful for all types of defenders. £6m sounds a good price and from the reports it sounds as if he's desperate to join us.

I'd be delighted to see us get Bellamy. I don't know if he's of dodgy character or not, but innocent until proven guilty in my eyes, and at any rate, we have to trust Rafa will do the necessary 'profiling' before hiring him.

I think people are in danger of underestimating just how good a footballer Bellamy is. Without this 6m clause, i think Blackburn would be asking over £12m for him, which would be a fairer benchmark of his quality.

I've always been a fan of Bellamy as a player. He's got unbelievable pace and is as least at much a goal maker as taker. In a way he's a bit of a poorman's Thierry Henry, and that's meant as a compliment.

he is the sort of player that when he plays against us, i am always very wary about how good he is, a bit like Pennant in that respect. i think, despite the physical handicap of having no neck, he could actually do a very good job for us

Hated it when it first came up but I've been convinced.

not sure about that particular anaolgy DH but i get your point and agree entirely.. see Newcastle without him + Blackburn with him..

He's like Henry in that he's a striker playing in a winger's body. His game is all about using his pace in wide positions and then cutting inside. Much like Henry.

if we don't sign him he's a terrible c*** and its a good job it didn't happen.

if we do its a f***ing unbelievable bit of business by our spanish maestro.

Am wary of his dressing room reputation, but then again we're not exactly short of strong characters who are capable of keeping him in line.

That sums it up, and it ain't being hyprocritcal to hold both those views. If we don't sign him it will be because Rafa wasn't satisfied by his enquiries into Bellamy's personality, and if we do it's because he did pass muster, and will be a great signing in a footballing sense too.

Bascombe is probably covering Rafa's a*** there

If he said that we're gonna bid £6m because we know for sure that clause exits then we might be in Ziege territory
