Obviously, a loan deal doesn't give us any cash with which to buy in a striker, and we don't retain Cisse to fill the role from Oct/November onwards. If anything, doesn't it leave us in a worse position?

 

Better for him than dossing about in a team that "doesn't want him", but I don't think it helps us much, does it? Would Marseilles be paying his wages, at least?

I think it is pretty crucial in that it allows us to get his wages off the books, so I'd expect a replacement for him on that basis.

This is a good deal for everyone - if he had stayed here when he recovered in November he would hardly play. At marseille he will play and will play regulary from December onwards in the french league which is where the teams are that want to buy him.

 

So we should have no problem getting decent money for him next summer.

 

I am sure there wouldnt be a huge problem in Liverpool taking on a bit of debt to get two decent strikers in on the assumption we get decent money for ciise next summer.

This is a good move for all concerned. Marseille are putting down a marker for Cisse, saying in effect, that even though he is injured now, they still want him.

 

Being wanted will help Cisse to keep a positive attitude and it will assist in his recovery time. He will have something positive to aim for (i.e. get fit and play for Marseille, rather than get fit and hang around on the fringes at Liverpool).

He's injured, so what use is he to our squad? And they will be paying his wages, or at least half, so that paves the way for us to bring in a replacement.
