I can't believe it's officially an oggy. FIFA issued a directive just before the WC which sought to clarify such incidents & the way I read it was that goals such as that would be credited to the attacker

When I heard that FIFA take 24 hours to review goals before crediting the scorer, i was hoping they'd be generous and give the goal to me.

It was a clear oggy. Beckham didn't shoot like Crouch only to have his goal bound effort deflected into a different part of the net.

 

He put a dangerous ball into the box on the hope that someone would get a head on it. I expect he was anticipating that head being an English one, but the fact that it was a clear header makes it a oggy. The fact that the original path of the ball may have gone into the net if the keeper's view was obstructed is irrelavent. Beckham did not shoot, so can hardly claim credit.

 

Unlike Owen, who made a unashamed attempt to claim it, before thinking the better of it and went to congratulate Beckham with everyone else.

The defender's contact was minimal & it would probably have gone in anyway, that's why I thought it should be his goal.

It was on target, so it should have been credited to Beckham. If it was Crouchy people would moan, but Beckham is more likely to score again.
