PSP advice

Just got a PSP and wanted to know which is the best software to us for ripping and converting DVD, AVI etc files to watch on PSP. Ive looked around the web and it seems PSP9 is the best but anyone else have any suggestions or know of better software? Also how large the files are once they are on the PSP as im not sure whether a 1or 2 GB memory stick will be best.
