Political Discontent

I've noticed over the years that those that seem very interested in Politics seem to be pretty unhappy about pretty much everything all the time.

 

Would people say that an increased awareness of political attitudes, subjects and themes generally leads to unhappiness on the whole?

 

Is it possible for those overly interested to be able to just 'switch off' and take things as they come - or is this not possible?
