Why all the anti-Englishness?

Seriously? It's not like the country ever gets another opportunity to get patriotic, the World Cup is our one and only chance to be united, if only for a while. People bitching about flags...go to America, the yanks have their flags all year round, at least we only reserve them for footie World Cups.

For just 4 weeks every 4 years the country is buzzing and we have something to talk about. You see people of all skin colour and ethnicities joining in the festivities, so it's not just a white thing as some try to suggest.

There's nothing wrong in being proud of being English and to show it just for a couple of weeks twice per decade is not indicative of overt jingoism. It's harmless fun and there's a genuine feel good factor when the England team do well at the World Cup.

I'm looking forward to the hope and enthusiasm that will grip this country, and I perversely enjoy the inevitable low of failure that abruptly ends the party atmosphere, as it signals the return to normality.

It's jealousy. All the 2nd string home nations can't handle our superiority

disinterested and apathetic about England. I find it difficult to start cheering for players I despise. I also hate all the hoopla that surrounds the England team & can't stand the great escape theme tune playing numpties that go watch them.

Euro 96 is to blame for all the flags, daft novelty songs, and people called Tarquin following football.

England's a southern thing.

As an Irish Red, I like to see England do well, especially the Liverpool lads. Hate the sight of Neville, Lampard, Joe Cole, Ferdinand though.

I will be supporting England, even though I'm not really English (but hey, the Isle of Man failed to qualify again, useless sacks of sh*te that they are), and I will love watching the games - I'm getting footie withdrawal symptoms.

I guess the thing that puts me off is the other England supporters that will be in the pub watching it as well.

They will all be Chelsea or West Ham fans, have a tattoo of a swallow on their necks, own a bull terrier on a piece of rope, dripping in chunky cheap jewellery, and use the word 'muppet' in conjunction with 'useless' and 'f*ck*ng' to describe any England footballer who hasn't scored a goal in the last ten minutes. "Crouch you useless muppet! Why the f*ck Ericsson picks him is beyo- OH!! GOAL!! WELL IN CROUCHIE!!! GOOD MAAAAAAAN ALWAYS SAID SO!!"

You might think I'm stereotyping, but deep down you also know I'm right! ;)

I'm with Reggie. I'm Irish and would love to see Stevie, Carra, Crouchobot or Carson ( ;) ) score the winner in the World Cup Final. I even have some respect for the likes of Owen, Joe Cole, Robinson, David James and even Carrick. But I can't stand most of the rest of them and Jar Jar, Neville and Rooney can piss off as soon as the WC finishes.

Just wait Neville Lampard Owen all injured up step Carra Gerard and the Red Giant to steer us to WC Victory watch all the Crouch boo w*****s f*** off then.
