shanks59 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Traore looks like he'll be sold. Warnock isn't upto the job. Defensively, Ginger is average at best. Aurelio ?
Benitez Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 so Riise, who has just played very well at left back in a season where we've conceded less goals than since goodness knows when - is average at best? He's a very good left back! No idea about a new one, beginning to believe this Aurelio having signed business is just fiction
IgPig Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 (edited) I am assuming Aurelio will be announced once his contract expires, that's usually June innit. Riise is far from average. His defending has improved a lot. Edited June 7, 2006 by hamstrung
mm2259 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 (edited) Last season we only conceded a handful of goals when Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia and Riise were on the pitch together. That would make Riise an integral part of the meanest defence in the league. So I wouldn't call Riise 'average at best'...Doesn't mean we can't improve or bring in more possibilities though. Guest Cally77 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 (edited) Do we really need Aurelio anyway? I think Zenden could play at left back too. Edited June 7, 2006 by Cally77

No idea about a new one, beginning to believe this Aurelio having signed business is just fiction I've said before I think we could do a lot better than Riise. He doesn't get many crosses in and is so reliant on his left foot it's unreal. I will always remember the Blackburn game where the ball came across him and had he shot with his right he might have scored, but he went for the ball with his left and such was the difficulty of getting it with his left he missed the ball and fell over. If Igor had done that when he was here he'd have been slaughtered and Traore would have too. Riise is a good player but he's not very good. He weighs in with some great goals and he works hard but I think we can do better.
jariiiiiiiiiise Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Well I thought Bidge was better that Cole the other night and if he's on the market for £3.5 i'd have him no problem

I agree with you on Aurelio
Mike Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 in 7 years your typing has not improved one iota jariiiiise. and bidge is f***ing garbage.

Kahnee Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I think Zenden could play at left back too. Only if everyone else had food poisoning
Will Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Only if everyone else had food poisoning I think he has already spent a brief spell at LB for us
Kahnee Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I think he has already spent a brief spell at LB for us You sure? Pretty sure he hasn't started a game there And even if he did, doesn't mean I thought it was a good idea
Will Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 You sure? Pretty sure he hasn't started a game there And even if he did, doesn't mean I thought it was a good idea No he didn't start there - I have a recollection that he went there during a game at the start of the season. Mind you, JAR went to CB during one game
Guest Cally77 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 He has all the attributes to play there. He's intelligent, can tackle, has good stamina, and his natural urge to get forward would aid us in attack. Lets face it, if wants regular games it's the only position he has a chance in.
Guest Gerrards Jockstrap Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I think if we sell Didi, then Zenden will likely back Momo and Xabi up in the middle, which is where he played his best football at Boro.
Guest Cally77 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Different types of player though aren't they? I can see Didi staying on for another season anyway. His experience is vital.
L19red Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 We'll have to disagree on Riise, the FA cup final was typical of him for me. I agree with you on Aureliowhat exactly did riise do wrong in the cup final?. For that first goal he was left exposed by a poor pass from Alonso, the second and third goals were nowhere near him. Quite aside from that we defend as a unit, and you only have to look at the clean sheets last year to know that we did a good job as a unit.
Owen1978 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I cant belive some ppl think riise is cr*p Attacking wise he is up there with cole, always a threat when near the goal. Defensive he has improved a lot He is in one of the best LB in the prem

Defensive he has improved a lot He is in one of the best LB in the prem No he isn't. He's not fast, Riise has a lot of stamina and is a strong runner but he's not quick, Cole goes on the overlap a lot more. If you look at Riise's attacking threat, it's based on whacking the ball as hard as he can. That's what Cisse does and we all say he's rubbish.

To be fair, you'd expect a striker to have a more subtle finish than a full back. And Cisse can't whack it as hard as Riise either...
Clay Davis Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 we've got Aurelio. and we'll announce it at end of th'month when his contract expires. i'm happy enough with Riise though

I wasn't implying that he should have the same subtelty as Cisse. I was implying that his game is limited, it is. Who's better Gerrard or Lampard? Gerrard, everytime, but Lampard scores a load of goals so he must be better, right? To add, I think Riise is a good player but I don't think he's great. Edited June 7, 2006 by YKI
