Ombudsam Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 He was ace. So were that whole Cameroon team actually. I was 8 during that WC and I wanted Cameroon to beat England as they were my favourite team especially after that first game when I think Canniga must have insulted all their mothers beforehand. But anyway Milla and his dance and that team are just about my first proper football memory

He opened the door for George Weah and the like, finally convincing the world you could have an African superstar. He scored one goal where he was actually laughing as he tapped it in, I can't remember the match.

If you'd seen me after we lost to argentina and gemany in 98 and 96 you'd know that i had but that cameroon team were the highlight of that WC easily, them and schillachi's eyes
Guest DanTheDaggerman Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 schillachi's eyesI definitely remember those. His pleading eyes when he was on his knees. I loved Italia 90. None of the later World Cups have come close to that one in terms of overall entertainment and drama, both from an English perspective and from a football perspective. The Beeb did a fantastic round-up documentary of the competition at the time, but I don't have it any more. I'll need to try and acquire it from somewhere, I guess.
johngibo YPC Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 He was 38 in Italia 90 as well http://sport.guardian.co.uk/smalltalk/stor...1787427,00.html
Gray - YPC Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 (edited) I was ten in 1990, and it's the first world cup I remember, and easily the best for me!! I've got a vague recollection of a Yugoslav scoring a brilliant goal where he does a turn and sends about 4 defenders the wrong way... I think it was Dragon Stoijkovic. I'd love to see that goal again, so if anyone knows of a link for it, it would be much appreciated. Then there was the best foul ever seen - half the Cameroon team clattering Cannigia. And Lothar Matthias was absolutely brilliant... scoring some belting goals and generally being the best player in the world cup. How he never won the Golden Ball (it went to Schillachi) I'll never know... his goal against Yugoslavia being the highlight. Great stuff... hopefully this world cup will be up there, as for various reasons it's not been the same since for me! Maybe it was the innocence and joy of youth? And one last this.. a lad from my school played alongside Toto Schillachi in America!! Can't remember the team though. Edited June 5, 2006 by Gray - YPC
Hassony Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 God everyone is so young Milla was better in '86 - they practically dragged him out of retirement for Italia 90. First World Cup I watched was 1966 - and was desperately dissapointed that Cally never got off the bench to join Sir Roger.you mean 82, cameroon weren't in the world cup in 86 he played in 94 also at the age of 42
