mrjunk Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Liverpool have been alerted to the availability of Argentina forward Pablo Aimar, who may be allowed to leave Valencia for as little as £5m. (The Times) from the beeb www.bbc.co.uk
smokescreen Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 So then, to start off the topic on topic... A great summers spending for me (after whats been said recently and presuming we have been priced out of Alves) would be that we bring in Paletta, Aurelio, Gonzalez, Pennant, Joaquin, Aimar and Torres. Paletta and Gonzalez (permit withstanding) already done, with Aurelio it seems nearly there. Pennant - strong rumours and cheap.Joaquin - Fig says could leave for a relatively low price.Aimar - Rumours Valencia want rid, and a low price.Torres - not cheap, but a great option up front and rumours of being Rafas first chice - DH confirmed talks taking place (iirc). Lots of possibilities there. Left mid - Kewell, Gonzalez.Right mid - Pennant, Joaquin, Gerrard.Centre mid - Momo, Xabi, Gerrard.Up front - Gerrard (deep), Aimar (deep), Fowler, Crouch, Torres. If we mostly play one target man with one deep lying forward, these should be enough. Any system and Rafa can tinker all he likes to suit the opposition.

Guest Peatcheo Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 We were in talks for Podolski before he signed for Bayern, he stalled on the contract and we pulled out apparantly. Reports suggested last week that talks stalled maybe we briefly turned his head.

Dule Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Dont know about the source, but thought id slap it in anyway, see if anyone has heard anything. http://www.clubcall.com/index.jsp?storyID=7395 Liverpool in for Steed. Clubcall understands that Liverpool are in talks with Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque over a proposed summer move to Anfield. The 26-year-old playmaker has only 12 months remaining on his current deal and it is believed Fulham are reluctantly ready to listen to offers for the player. Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been tracking the Belgian born star for over a year and could test Fulham's resolve with a bid in the region of £3.5million.Malbranque has been one of Fulham's most influential players since his transfer from Lyon in 2001, and his free scoring exploits from midfield have netted him 31 goals from 169 appearances. However, Liverpool will face stiff competition for the player's signature as Manchester City are also keen on the schemer.

Much prefer him to Pennant if they're going for around the same price.
Jiggy Hates Jazz Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 (edited) Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been tracking the Belgian born star for over a year and could test Fulham's resolve with a bid in the region of £3.5million. Why did I read that as Belgian Porn Star?? Edited June 2, 2006 by electricjanmolby
WelshSpikeMikey Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Much prefer him to Pennant if they're going for around the same price. Not me. We need a genuine right winger this Summer so I'd take Pennant. It would be hard to decide who the 'better' player is though, as they play in different positions. I'd rather Aimar over Steed anyway.

Manchester City - 'stiff competition' arf.

Rimbeux Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Did he not get an extension, after a couple of years?
RedNik Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Would much prefer Pennant to Malbranque. Steed is quality, no doubt. But, I think his game is very similar to luis', cutting in from the right, chipping in with goals, threading balls through. We have been struggling for a right winger since oh i dont know ages, and finding a player who can play there but cuts in hasn't been the solution. Besides, Gerrard does that better than most. We need someone who gets to the by-line. That was why Cisse was used there, and Pennantdoes the same but is a better provider.
JayKay Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Did he not get an extension, after a couple of years? I think got a new contract during Houllier last season in charge

I think he would blossom in a squad such as ours.Hope we sign him.
Benitez Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Signed in late 2001 (after Sander's nightmare at Bolton I seem to recal), and think he signed a new deal during one of his injury spells under GH Aye. I think he's contracted till 2009.
Guest AndyM17 Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Agree with others ~ Pennant would be a far better signing. Need a player like him to attack teams from the wing.
surf Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Didn't Rafa say he wanted his signings done before the beginning of the world cup? If so next week could be interesting.
