Bikes Advice

I haven't cycled since coming off my bike last june and wrecking my ankle. I think it's about time I got back to it and just wanted some advice on what bike to buy.

 

My previous bike was a mountain bike with front suspension (cost me about £200). I never used it on any terrain other than roads although I suppose I wouldn't mind having the option of being able to cycle on some "basic" rough terrain (e.g grass!) Ideally I'd keep the cost under £500 but any reasonable recommedations would be appreciated.

 

Any ideas?
