Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse claims three French clubs are chasing his signature.

The Frenchman revealed Lyon, Marseille and Paris Saint Germain are keeping tabs on him

Cisse's future at Anfield has been the subject of intense speculation for some time as he struggled to hold down a regular place in Rafa Benitez's plans.

Benitez is thought to be in the market for new strikers as his side struggled for goals last term and he has already offloaded Fernando Morientes to Valencia in a bid to raise some funds.

Cisse came close to leaving Liverpool last January before he eventually decided to stay on Merseyside.

The former Auxerre man has warned Liverpool he will not endure another frustrating season like last term and that he wants his future resolved before the World Cup finals get underway next month.

"I won't play another season like this with (Rafael) Benitez," Cisse told Football365.

"I want everything to be arranged before the World Cup, in order to be 100 percent focused on my football.

"I am in contact with PSG, Lyon and there is also a link with Olympique Marseille."

Notwithstanding that his words may have lost something in translation, there is nothing surprising in Cisse wanting to have a dig at Benitez. Rafa acted in the best interests of LFC, but he did not act in Cisse's best interests, and it is understandable if he is bitter.

I dont really think he is having a dig he is just stating what we know that Rafa does not have confidence in him as a striker so he wants to leave nothing wrong with that. At least he is honest and upfront about it.

True enough, but I fully expect him to have a dig once he's out the door.

Why are Sky attributing those quotes to Football 365, when their is nothing at all being reported by Football 365 or the French equivilant ?

I dont really think that a player would make a 180 degree turn like he seems to have done, i dont trust that report at all....

Had a quick look around, and it's being reported in a few places though.

CLAIREFONTAINE, France (AP) -Djibril Cisse said he felt unwanted by Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez and would like to play for Gerard Houllier at Lyon.

Houllier helped get Cisse to Liverpool from Auxerre, but the coach left the English club shortly before Cisse signed in July 2004.

"Mr. Houllier signed me for Liverpool, and I never had the chance to work with him,'' Cisse said Sunday. "Now I have a coach who doesn't want me. Benitez doesn't use me, so I've taken a step back. I was sad that Houllier left.''

Cisse, who is training for the World Cup with France's national team, has scored 24 goals in 78 appearances for Liverpool, including a goal in the FA Cup final win over West Ham.

"I love Liverpool, but I don't have the confidence of the coach,'' Cisse said. "He doesn't like me. That is his right. You can't be please everyone. But I don't think I could stand another season like the one I've just had.''

Cisse said he was even willing to take a pay cut to join Lyon - either on loan or in a permanent move - or Marseille.

"Financially you have to make some sacrifices, and I'm ready to make them,'' Cisse said. "My heart leans to Marseille, but Lyon plays in the Champions League and is a more stable club.''

Cisse said Liverpool blocked a move to Marseille last December.

"Liverpool refused to let me go. I got a lot of hate mail on my Internet site from Marseille fans, because they thought it was my fault,'' said Cisse, who added that he has also been contacted by Paris Saint-Germain but did not want to join the club.

At the end of the day Rafa is the Boss, if some of you sentimentalistic posters were the boss, we would still have Mad Erik playing for us and still looking for his first goal.

Lay off Rafa and let him do what he is proficient at; Managing our team, he is without doubt the one most talented club managers around, actually his is probably the most talented, as even my dear old mum and some of your could manage the chav`s

Look at Fowler who came back with a bit of a rep & compare him to Cisse.

Rafa's keeping one of them at least for sure - who & why?

But then we're told that Fowlers 'rep' was because he was heatbroken at not playing for Liverpool and he'd only really play well if he returned.

Cisse has rarely, if ever had the backing of the manager publicly. While he was linked with moves away - silence, after the Super Cup - silence, recently - silence.

Compare that with the arm around the shoulder Morientes and Crouch got and coupled with being played everywhere and anywhere I have a little sympathy with him. If my boss refused to back me while gushing over my colleagues and shifted me all over the place I'd be a little pissed as well. Yes he should still have busted his ass but he didn't, that doesn't take away the fact that he scores goals though no matter how many people want to put it down and say that goals don't count.

Hopefully he'll find a club that will allow him to play in his prefered position, give him the backing he needs and he scores the goals everyone knows he can. And I hope we sign a striker that fulfills the expectations of people here, scores the goals we need and proves to be the super inteligent, skillful, super striker we seem to want.

Goals.

Hoe many of his goals were actually important? Most of em were in games we'd already won

Right wing, left wing, upfront, bench, not in squad.

Can't think why he's struggled with consistency....

He played left wing once (and had probably his best game of the season) The reason he can't get in up front is because he won't do what's asked of him.

Do you really rate Cisse or are you just being cantankerous because you don't rate Crouch?

I would like to say that 9/10 in big games, he would miss golden chances and go grumpy the rest of the game.

He is like heskey in one way, he lets his confidence dip mid game and that can be dangerous for his side...

Plus he doesnt know how to work the offside ruling...

I think that's it. He's not used to being on the left or right wing and therefore he will make some effort to learn what Rafa is trying to teach him. But when he gets back up front, that's where he's always played, he thinks he knows what to do and so all Rafa's instructions go out of his head.....

nonsense.

"It's a simple solution. Work hard, play more games, score goals and get your reward. It's a vicious circle. If you work hard, you can play. If you play, you can go to the World Cup.

"He's a player who can score goals and he has unbelievable pace. There's always a chance for him because every manager would like a player with his qualities."

he has played runs of games up front though

he has also played games where he hasnt scored and contributed absolutley nothing

we cant afford to have 10 players during games

The reason why Cisse was put on the wing is because when he is up front he has one way of playing, thats making direct runs then t***ting the ball as hard as he can....So he was put out wide to utilise his pace as he was often anonymous up front

he lacks effort....

we cant afford to have platers who dont even try...........

Whereas with a manager who felt the goals worthwhile nonetheless, he'd be hailed as the kind of striker who can be anonymous for 90 minutes and still score the winner at the end (fowler/owen have had that label stuck at them many times in the past).

Fowler in particular would also be completely anonymous on his offdays for us in the past, but you knew he could still be good for a goal. Trezeguet seems to play deliberately to be anonymous during games as if to make the defence forget he is there or something. Don't be telling me Cappello doesn't know what he is doing.

So does Rafa, they just have different priorities about what is important up front. If Rafa's priorities had mirrored someone like Capello's or Houllier's I think Cisse could have been a success here. They don't and Cisse doesn't have what it takes to deliver what Rafa wants.

Rafa's judgement doesn't neccesarily tell the whole story about what he is capable of as a player though.

It may not be laziness on his part, it may be self doubt. The step up from the French league to the Premiership is a big one and Cisse has never looked comfortable. He was also bought by a manager who wasn't actually there when he arrived so he might have felt that Benitez had less faith in him. Whatever the truth, it would do him and the club good for him to return to France. I am sure he's as disappointed as we all are with the way things turned out, but sometimes no-one is to blame. The only question to be sorted now is do the club wait for him to ask for a move thus saving paying up his contract?
