What was the legacy of The Empire?

 

My old history teacher and I would have debates on this. I thought it f***ed up most of the world good and proper whilst he claimed that it's legacy was to enrich civilisation in these 'backwaters' and provide them with a decent infrastructure (administration and transport).

 

You'll probably think I'm nuts but I reckon a lot of the asylum problems that the West is suffering from now is as a consequence of Western Europe's colonnial past conduct.
